    THE MAN ON THE BOX
Continued from page 1.
groom, coachman and rescuer of gov
ernment plans were all expert and
full of character.
Count Karloff, the Russian diplomat,
played by SI Simola, was the best of
the character parts. The count
changed from an honorable man work
ing for his country, into an unscrupu
lous villain who still kept the sympa
thy of the audience even at his worst. |
Si Simola was entirely transformed
from his campus self, and gave the
audience several thrills and tremors
in his foreign way.
The other character part of the
Magistrate Watts; was played fiercely
ind Importantly by Norman Phillips,
who made a magistrate that any crim
inal would tremble before. His soft
ening toward Mrs. Conway was very
effective, and the imminent danger he
ingered in of giving away the mystery
;o Miss Betty’s father aroused much
aughter.
