MEMES TRAIN ATHLETES Fi BUSH LEAGUE TRACK MEET Dark Horses to Feature Event March 20; Parlor Branch Is Suspended CAPTAINS LAY DOWN PLANS Pigging and Cigarettes Go — Frosh Bear Burden as Sparring Part ners for Aspiring Stars “Have a cigarette?” "Nope. I’m training for the big interfraternity track meet March 20.” Many of the houses on the campus are lining up their athletes, and training them for the biggest bush-league event of the year. Every fraternity on the campus will enter a team, but the varsity track men will be required to work in events other than their regular one. The gathering promises to be one of the features of the year. Bill Steers intends to handle the sprints for the Phi Belts and Bill is going to show the boys some real class in the 50 and 100 yard dashes. Hugh Latham is out to throw the javelin. Scotty St radian has been unlimbering his arm on a number of frosli lately, con ditioning for the discus. Jamieson 440, Banks 880, Meyers jumps, Durno and Wood field events, are included in the Phi Belt lineup. The Sigma Nu team composed of Starr, Tuck, Gilbert, Malone, McKin ney, Hayslip, Rambo, Paul and Max Schafer, Hollenbeck, Gilbert, Goch nour, looks to be one of the strongest on the campus. Tuck and Hayslip ought to be able to cinch several points, while Hollenbeck is a noted Mexican athlete. All huskies, is the motto of the Sigma Chi aggregation. “Hud” Brown is expected to make some of his 190 pounds count in the weights. Cosgrlf, Blake. Rinehart and Breed add to the list of heavyweights. Ben Breed is the leader of the Sigma Oils, and in tends to instill a lot of Inside dope into his men during the next week. Palmer, Murchie, Coleman, Harris, Bradeson, Hazard, Bosch and Waters complete the Sigma Chi list. Kappa Sig3 Have Training Table Another formidable outfit is the Kappa Sig team. Bowles and Kuhen hausen, both varsiy contenders, should feature in the fruternity affair. Stan Anderson, Ireland and Sunderloaf make the Kappa Sigs look dangerous. Pancakes have been added to the breakfast menu, and Howard Staub has quit pigging, us eleventh hour in tensive training measures at the Kap pa Sig house. Brock, Shields, Stra horn, Krohn and Dundore also expect to participate. The Dells have not yet picked a team, but they expect feature "Prink" Fallison in several of the speedy events. "Mort” Brown will probably make use of his famous back hand stroke in the sprints, t'ase, In gile, Fariss, Medley, lloldrldge and Port wood are among the personnel of the Belt athletes. The A. T. O’s have many good nth lotos lined up, and the men appear to be in excellent condition, due proba bly to their long walks .from (he cam pus Has Williams and Elsou will look after the weights. Muggins should star as a long distance runner. , Nelson, Yonder Ahe, Furry, Burleigh, Blackaby, Whittaker. Pouch and Riggs complete the list. Davis Looks Good for Owl Club Lyman Meador, who is handling the Owl club proteges, has not picked the whole team. Don Davis will pet form, and although Davis is a distance man he rates well in the other events. Ross, Taylor, Ransome, McArthur and Porter will help complete the Owl club squad. The Fijis have not organized a team but they have good prospects. Hem enway should be a star performer Nelson. English, Francis and Vince Jacobberger, Bain, Knudsen, La Roch. Royer and Ralston will work on the Fiji representation. The S Maralda will put its first team in the held next week. Oden, Quayle. Koeppe. Manacl and Halley are a few of the representatives. S. A, E, has a number of good men in its lineup, and the team should put up a good run for the champim slop. Bartholomew Heads Bachelordon The Bachelordon club has a number of dark horses who tire likely to up set much of the dope. Bartlett, Clerin and Meade will strengthen the Beta chances. NEW HONOR SOCIETY TO SELECT MEMBERS Meeting Will Be Held in April to Con sider Eligibility of Upper Classmen A meeting of the University Honor society will be held early in April, after the term grades are in, to deter mine what juniors and seniors will be admitted to the organization, ac cording to Dr. Robert C. Clark, presi dent of the society. The new society, as explained by its president, is the beginning of an attempt to install the Phi Beta Kapp-i honor organization at the University. It is composed of faculty and city members of the Phi Beta Kappa. A committee is now at work drawing up a constitution and bylaws which are intended to be similar to those oi. the national society. Students of high standing in scho lastic work are eligible, but the com mittee on selection of candidates will consider other qualifications, such as personality and success in different lines, said Clark. Petition for membership in the na tional Phi Beta Kappa will be sub mitted to the organization’s senate or council of united chapters some time in 1922. At the meeting in j April a small number of juniors will; . I be elected, and a larger number of seniors. The prospective new mem bers will be chosen in strict accord ance with the Phi Beta Kappa rules, Professor (^fk stated. EIGHT STUDENTS STILL OUT Sixteen Have Made Matters Right at Business Office Only eight students, out of the 24 suspended for not paying laboratory fees, have yet failed to make things right with the business office, ac cording to a report from there. Of this number, the report said, prob ably some of them have withdrawn from the classes for which the fees were due, and have never filed form al withdrawal cards. The students are responding fine, was the registrar’s opinion, and are coming up to pay their fees right along.
