Leap Year Lottery Ladies' Choice
The evening of March 5 has been
set aside by the members of the
class of ’22 for the Sophomore Shin
dig. Elaborate plans have been made
for the affair which is to be a lottery.
The girls are to call up those men
who have been chosen by the com
mittee, make the date, and then on
the evening of the dance they are to
call for the gentleman in question
and escort him to the men’s gym^
nasium. No provision was made as
to who would take the other home.
Following the precedent set by form
er classes, this is to be a hard times
or fancy dress affair. Basements are
being ransacked for comic costumes,
and old clothes are being made into
all sorts of . weird looking garments.
Those men whose names do not ap
pear in the following list have thfe
privilege of asking anyone they wish.
Any girl whose name does not ap
pear is requested to notify one of
the officers of the class. Clara Cal
kins, vice president, says the idea of
leap year is to be carried out to the

George D. Orput, a Portland busi
ness man, is in Eugene in the in
terests of Frank 0. Lowden, present
governor of Illinois, who is a candi
date for the Republican nomination
for the presidency of the United
States. Mr. Orput comes from Illi
nois and is a personal friend of Mr.
Lowden’s.
Since his arrival on Sunday, Mr.
Orput has been interested in forming
\ a Lowden Club among University
students. He was interviewed several
regarding the matter and many seem

favorable. At present there is a
Hoover club on the campus, but due
to the failure of Mr/Hoove^ to make
a definite statement, Mr. Orput be
lieves that a Lowden club should be
popular.
Mr. Orput ,is the father of Dor
Orput, ex-'15, and has a keert. interest
in the University. He states that if
Lowden is elected that textile in
dustries will be fostered on this
coast and that the dream of th<
west will thus be realized. Payrolls
are what we need, says Mr. Orput
and our population will be greatlj
increased if such industries locats
here.

campus, and Mr. Orput is sure tha
a club will be formed without difficul
ty.

convention at Des Moines will mak<
a trip to Springfield Sunday, when
they will speak at the Methodis
church in the evening. The Oregor
delegation considered the eastern con
vention a great help to themselves
and to the University and are taking
this means of telling the people whai
they learned on the trip.

delegation went to Junction City
When they arrived the flu ban hat
just been placed on the town and thej
were not permitted to give the pro
gram planned.
