WOMEN CHOSEN TO REPRESENT HOUSES IN CAMPUS DEBATE Date For Contest In Doughnut League Changed to Febru ary 3 and 5 LOTTERY TO DECIDE ORDER Townspeople May Act as Judges— Industrial Question Selected as Subject Matter Speakers to represent the women’s organization of the campus in the doughnut series to be held February 3 and 5 have been chosen in all but one or two instances. Final touches are being put to the preparatory work. A lottery is to be held about a week before the debate to decide the order in which the teams will appear against each other. The date for the debate was re cently changed from January 21 and 22. Heretofore only members of the faculty have acted as judges but the officer of the league hope a num ber of townspeople can be found who will be willing to judge the con tests. The subject which will be de bated is “Resolved that the Canadian act for the investigation of indus trial disputes should be applied to all disputes between railroads, em ployees and the United States.” The personnel for the different houses are: Alpha Delta, Marie Rid ings and Margaret Straughan, affirm ative; Leila Stone and Blaine Cooper, negative; Dr. R. OBEY OF BANQUETING TO DISPLACE MEMORY OF MING TOBIES Men Will Receive Letters For Football and Captain Will Be Elected “Everythng from soup to nuts, and! a feed which will wipe out the mem-| ories of training table beefsteaks” is, the way “Bill” Hayward characterizes the menu which will be set before the football letter men at a big banquet to be held at the Osburn Hotel on Monday evening at 6:30 o’clock. “I have been planning this little affair all through the season and I want it to be the biggest thing of its kind that has ever been staged here,” re-! marked “Bill” last night, and accord-! ing t othe preparations which are be ing made, it will certainly be the big gest by far. Twelve letter men of the football team which made the University ofi Oregon famous throughout the coun try will be seated at the banquet table and not onl ythe letter men, but their ladies will be there with them. President Campbell and Mrs. Campbell, Dean and Mrs. Morton, Mr. and Mrs. E. C| Simmons, Marion Mc Clain, “Bill” Hollenbeck, and of course' “Bill” and “Shy” will be there be-' sides the letter men, who will be on hand. And it is rumored that both “Bill” and “Shy” will escort ladies, but as to who the lucky parties may be, cannot be pried from them. Three members of the football team will be unable to attend as they are not in the city, these are “Brick” Leslie, “Fat” Mautz and “Al” Hard ing, but the other boys will be there en masse and this will include “Bill” Steers, “Spike” Leslie, “Ken Bartlet, “Brandy” Brandenberg, “Stan” And erson, “Baz” Williams, “Jake” Jacob berger, “Vince” Jacobberger, “Skeet” Manerud, “Holly” Huntington, “Mart” Howard, “Nish” Chapman, and “Pink” Callison. Of this galaxy of stars, seven will receive their letters for their first year on the varsity. They are Callison, Chapman, Howard, Man erud, “Spike” Leslie, “Vince” Jacoby berger and “Al” Harding. Bartlett and Williams' will receive their three strips this year. Toasts will be in order at the ban quet and the University Jazz Band will dispense heaps of soothing syn copation, and “Brandy” might be in duced to sing for the boys. A captain to pilot the next year’s team through the season wil be elect ed at the banquet. TRIANGULAR CONTEST Wilbur Carl, George Black, Paul Pat terson and Don Davis Added to Speakers’ List Four new men were added last night to the list of candidates for positions on the debating team which will enter in the international tri angular contest with the University of British Columbia and the Univer sity of Idaho Febryary 27. The men chosen in the tryouts which were held Friday are Wilbur Carl, George Black and Paul Patterson, all of Port land, and Don Davis, of Nyssa. The other seven candidates, who were chosen some time ago, are Kenneth Armstrong, Remey Cox, Ralph Hoe ber, all of Portland; Ernest Crockatt, Spokane, Wash., Elmer Pendell, Wa verly, N. Y., Ernest Nail, Klamath Falls, and Carlton Savage, Waconda. From these eleven candidates four men will be selected later to repre sent the University of Orgon in the triangular debate. The negative team of the University will meet the Uni versity of British Columbia at Vancou ver, B. C., on the same night that the affirmative team of the Univer sity will meet the University of Idaho team on the Eugene campus. These same four Oregon debaters will also meet the teams of the University of Washington and Stan ford university a week later.
