    You Are Responsible for the
University’s Future
Vote for Its Greater Prosperity on June 3
■ »■
The future of the University of Oregon rests largely in,
the hands of the students. They give it life and reputation;
they cause its growth and expansion. Without them there
could be no University; yet neither can there be an institution
without a substantial financial backing... Equipment and
buildings are also an essential factor for the development of
a Greater Oregon... These can be provided by your vote at the
coming election. Will you be there?
The Five Million Dollar Reconstruction Bonding Amend
ment and the Reconstruction Bonding Bill on the state ballot,
together with the amendment to the Eugene charter which!
allows for a donation of five thousand dollars from the towns
people towards the Women’s Building Fund on the city ballot,
are all matters of serious import to the welfare of the Univer
sity and require the support of every student. The combined
efforts of every member of the student body, the votes of all
students who are of age, and the influence of all upon their
families and friends will put these measures through. This
is an opportunity to liberate higher education and deliver the
educational institutions of the state from the throes of penury.
The Five Million Dollar Reconstruction Bonding Amend
ment is a grant of constitutional authority which removes
the limitation on state taxes and makes way for the Recon
struction Bonding Bill. In itself it provides for no bond issue.
It is only a companion amendment to the Reconstruction
Bonding Bill; and both must be adopted before the $5,000,000
in reconstruction bonds can be issued... The amendment
removes the constitutional limitation; the bill provides for the
issuance of the bonds.
The measure of this bill was designed to meet the prospect
ive unemployment due to demobilization of Oregon soldiers,
reclamation of land for the benefit of men returned from the
service, and for the benefits of education in the state... Of this
$5,000,000 provided for in the bill, $500,000 is assigned to the
University, which can readily be used to eliminate the crowded
classrooms and laboratory space in the older buildings and
for a new library or commerce building... That every student
should get behind this bond issue seems to be the only possible
way of meeting fully the needs of the University and other1
institutions of its kind in the state.
Don’t forget to vote for the $5,000 gift to the Women’s
Building offered by the people of Eugene.
