    GOOD MATERIAL OUT
' FOB FBESHMi F!V
Shy Huntington Coaches Team;
nid High School Stars
Practicing.
UJI
The men ou>t for freshman basket
ball look like good material- Several
former high school stars are out. The
frc*hmen are practicing every night in
the gymnasium under the direction of
“Shy” Huntyngtom. About 20 men have
been out and after the schedules have
been definitely arranged a larger num
ber of men will probably appear. As yet
no games have been arranged, but it is
expected that the regular number of
freshman contests will be played.
Several of the candidates show real
ability. Prince Callison, a likely can
didate for the center or guard position,
Inis had four years’ experience on the
Eugene high school team. Vincent Ja
cobbeuger, who pkyed two years on the
Columbia University team Va Portland,
shows considerable class on the floor and
has a good chance of placing on the
team. Xot all of the promising material
cornea from large schools, as Fred Lo
renzo, a fast man and a good shot, has
played four years on the Ooquillo high
sohool team. Lorenzo plays a clever
game and will have an opportunity to
shine before the season is over. East
ern Oregon contributes a good man in
Francis Boiler, who is fighting for a po
sition- Roller lias played two years on
the Pendleton high team. Marc Latham
made a fine showing on the Salem high
school team last year. Marc is big and
husky, and plays a lively game nt cen
ter. He will be a strong contestant for
the'center position.
All in all, the freshman squad looks
Tom-ising and the men are working hard.

ROBT. McMURRAY NOT DEAD
Sends Christmas Greetings and Letter
December 13.
Christmas greeting cards and a let
ter dated December 13, received from
; Lieutenant Robert McMurray, graduate
[ of the University in the class of 1016,
recently reported killed in action, seem
to indicate that there has been some
mistake in the report, think President
Campbell and William McMurray. father
of Robert. President Campbell in a
long distance telephone conversation with
Mr. McMurray, of Portland, learned
that the McMurrays received a letter
from their son last Saturday saying that
he was in the best of health, and never
felt better in his life.
The report in the "casualty list that
; he had been killed in action would seem,
| then, to be wrong, says President Camp
bell, since fighting stopped November
11 and Lieutenant MeMtnrray was heard
from over a month afterward.
McMurray entered the University
from Stanford in 1014- lie vs a mem
ber of Kappa Sigma, Alpha Kappa Psi
and Friars.
