The rfl>n of the Officers’ Training
Camp staried target practice on the
range this morning. E company was the
first to take the hike out Alder street,
and Company C went this afternoon.
Company E will go tomorrow morning,
the Machine Gun company will practice
tomorrow afternoon and Thursday will
see Companies A and D on the range.
The scores will he kept by companies,
and Colonel Leader expects that the
competition between the men will he
keen.
The men are provided with new guns,
which were to have been sent to the Rus
sian government. They were shipped here
from San Francisco.
Psychological Test Coming.
Many special activities will mark the
life of the camp during the next two
weeks. The psychological tests, which
determine how quickly and dearly a man
can think, will he conducted by I>r. E. S.
Conklin, head of the department of psy
chology. next week.
All the men in the camp are going on
a long hike next week out into the Co
burg hills. If Colonel Leader can find
good barns for the men to use ns bar
racks, the party will stay cut for one
or two nights. If there are no available
sleeping quarters, the men will return
to Eugene every night and then start
out early the next morning. On the way
back, there will be a rear guard battle.
, Battle to Be Realistic.
The close of the third week of the
camp will witness a big all-night battle
in the trenches. The 'booming of the
guns and the flashes of fire will make
the attack realistic akd serve to keep
everyone awake that night, as well,

the trip through the gas chambers in the
trenches. Each man will wear a gas mask
to see “how it works.”

The object of the game, is to push,

The field is back of Kincaid Field,
adjoining the tennis courts. As soon as
practical, Mr. Walker will issue a call

A telegram received by Colonel W. II.
C. Bowen, commanding officer of the S.
A. T. C., from Lieutenant L, A. Roberts,
Helena, Montana, this morning, recom
mends tlilat men who have completed one
year of technical training continue their
advanced studies until otherwise de
sired.
The telegram follows: ‘Commanding
officers and heads of institutions are di
rected to (assign students who have com
pleted successfully one or inure years
of technical study in engineering, med
icine, mining, dentistry, veterinary med
icine, mid pharmacy to continue the ad
vanced studies of their technical pro
gram, until otherwise desired through
official channels.”
It is advisable that pre-medic students
who have previously'signified their in
tention to enter the medical college and
have completed successfully one year of
pre-medical study continue their ad
vanced studies.
CHILD WELFARE REPORT OUT
The extension division has issued a
bulletin giving a report of the child wel
fare work. The bulletin is written by
I*r. W. II. Sliugerland of the Russell
Sage foundation from his twenty-seventh
survey of child welfare conditions, and
is a study rather than an investigation
or criticism The study is authorized un
der the State Child Welfare Committee,
of which Dr. B. W. DeBusk, Dean
Louise Ehrmann, Dr. George Rebec
and Professor E. S. Conklin are mem
bers.
DR. DE BUSK STARTS LECTURES
Dr. Tl. W. De Busk, professor of sec
ondary education, lectured to the teach
ers of The Dalles Saturday on 'The
Laws of Learning.” This is the first of
a series of lectures that Dr. DeBusk will
deliver at The Dalles during this term.
Next term Professor C. A. Gregory will
have charge of this extension work.
