NO COMMANDANT FOR DE PAUW Effort to obtain a United States irmy officer as head of a department of military science and tactics at Pe Pauw has been unsuccessful. Repeated telegrams and letters to the war de partment at Washington have brought only replies as an officer capable of taking charge of military training at De Pauw is not available at present. Parkinson, pastor of the i Pirst Methodist Episcopal church de livered a sermon dedicated to the Uni : versity battalion, the ordnance corps, ' and the home guard company on Sunday morning. The great building was full, even to the side rooms usually used only for Sunday school purposes, and people of every religious denomination united in dedicating the morning to the military corps which have come to be such a great part of every day life. Music a Feature. Assembling at the corner of eleventh and Willamette streets a few minutes 1 before time for the service the com panies, 'headed by the University band, the staff officers with the battalion and national colors, preceeded to the church in a body, where they were seated in special reserved sections. The music was a particular feature of the pro gram. and included solos by Martha Tinker and Curtiss Teterson. and special i pipe-organ selections played by John Stark Evans which were unusually im pressive. “Onward Christian Soldiers” and “America,” sung by the audience, opened the sendees.
