On account of the unsettled weather, | the girls’ work in gymnasium will he j confined to the two gymnasiums for the next two weeks, or till the rains are ! over, according to Aliss Cummings, head of the department of physical education. The advanced stu lents in tennis will ; be allowed to play i.i the outdoor gym while the beginners in tennis, those en rolled in golf, canoeing and archery will report to classes as usual and have or ganized games and baseball practice. Serious practice for those interested in baseball will also be held and this will continue throiif'.out the season. This j will he separate from the class work. , Swimming classes are to be divided according to ability. There will be six periods two afternoons a week where groups of ten girls will be under the* di rection of the teachers and where they will receive practical instruction. The groups will 1)0 divided into three classes elementary, average, and expert swim mers. This nrfternoon the University j girls swimming team gave an exhibition meet for the benefit of those who were not able to see the meet witli < >. A. C. A track team composed of girls es pecially interested in competitive work is to he organized as soon as possible and later in the spring. On field day this team and other girls interested in running and jumping will hold a track meet. Tonight; Drill and Instruc tion to Be Offered. Classes and Hours Will Be Talked Over in Meeting in Villard Tomorrow. The entire hour will he given over to a discussion of these courses and the de termining of schedules. A meeting of the. heads of departments involved, as well as the instructors who will probably give courses under the new compulsory drill system inaugurat ed yesterday hy the faculty, will be held tonight to continue the work of outlin ing courses. Those who will require special preparation in technical subjects will aid in the determining of courses re quired if they will consult with the mem bers of the faculty in whose dpartinent the work would naturally full. At the present time the entire affair is unsettled ’because the faculty do not know the amount or the nature of the work required as preparation for federal army examin ations. The hours at which classes will meet and tlie scope of the work can only be outlined after a general conference with the faculty and the student body. “It is to the interest of all that every member of the student body be on hand tomorrow morning, in order that the ex planation of the work can be gained first hand,” said Karl Onthauk. Coasi Artillery May Be Turned Out on Short Notice. University Students in Compan ies Instructed to Be on Hand When Message Comes. Forty-five University men who have enlisted in the Coast Artillery Corps may be called almost any minute. They are to keep themselves in readiness to answer the call to depart at a momen’ts notice, according to a telegram received by Colonel Creed C. Hammond from Ad jutant General White Saturday night. The officers of the second and third companies are to remain where they can he reached quickly by telephone or tel egraph and they are then to call out the men assigned to them, who must hold themselves in readiness to respond to the call at a moment’s notice.
