GIRL VICTORS MAY
CUSH III EUGENE
Champions of Western and
Eastern Sections of State
to Meet.
A. R. Tiffany Is Asked if Plan
Would Meet With Favor
Here.
With the Pendleton girls basketball
team of eastern Oregon and the Oakland
gills team of western Oregon winning
the championship in their respective
sessions, interest now centers in seeing
the two teams clash for the state cham
1 ionship. From reports - coming from
Pendleton and Oakland the University is
the favored place of both places for the
staging of such a match.
There would be special interest in the
match on the campus from the fact
that both teams are coached by former
students and graduates who were friends
here while undergraduates and who are
loth well and favorably known to many
of the present student body. The Pen
dleton team’s coach is Miss Louise Bai
ley. who received her degree from the
University in the spring of 1010. She
was president of the Women’s league, a
member of Ivappa Kappa Gamma and
a member of the student council in her
undergraduate days. Likewise the coach
of the Oakland team. Anthony Jaureguy,
I was closely allied with student activities
while in the University. In his senior
year he was the manager of the Emerald.
He graduated in the spring of 1015, and*
is a brother of Nicholas Jaureguy, stu
dent body president.
Miss Bailey is physical director of the
young women at Pendleton and coached
the quintet of girls that victoriously
swept the eastern part of the state this
winter, while at the same time the team
coached by Jaureguy was clinching the
western pennant. Miss Bailey and Jaur
eguy were friends in their undergradu
ate days and in their correspondence
there came the first suggestion of a
championship game between their pet
teams.
A letter has been received by Gradu
ate-Manager Tiffany from the superin
tendent of the Pendleton schools asking
if the plan of staging the match would
find favor here. The match would prob
ably be staged* either the week-end of
February 25 or March 5.

Dickens Characters Re-immortalized
SCENE FROM “OLIVER TWIST,” A PARAMOUNT PICTURE PRODUCEO
BY LASKY.
Herewith appear Marie Doro as Oliver Twist, Tully Marshall as Fagin,
Hobart Bosworth as Bill Sikes and Raymond Hatton as the Artful Dodger In
the Lasky adaptation of "Oliver Twist” for the Paramount Program. In def
erence to the fact that Dickens is recognized as the peer of all character delin - .
eators, the motion picture producers studied every type in the picturlzatloi
most carefully before engaging a single person. That the work was well don*
is amply shown by these four characters who seem to have stepped directly
from the great novelist’s pages.
Blossom Time in
the Golden State
A friend just back from Southern
California says: “The weather was
fine, in fact too warm for heavy
clothes. Many were bathing at the
beaches. Oranges were ripe in the
valleys, while the mountains nearby
were covered with snow.”
With warm sunny weather it will
not be long before the blossoms on
the trees will be everywhere announ
cing that spring time is here.
