THE MEN WHO WILL BEAT WASHINGTON TODAY I Coach Bezdek:—he says, “We have a great state.” In 1900 “Bez” came to Oregon from starring on the Univer sity of Chicago eleven, and turned out a football machine that beat Washing ton and grabbed the northwest cham I pionship. He can do it again. Doctor Hayward, with his medicine case; Trainer Hayward, who follows the boys round the field; Cook Hayward, I as he dopes out the grub for their appe ' tites; Sleuth Hayward, the greatly fear ed one who is always where he shouldn’t be when a man is breaking training; ’ ut through all of this don’t forget the one BILL Hayward, an institution at Ore gon. In the 13 years at Oregon Bill * -Hayward has brought home 11 North I west championships. He knows how to get the men^into condition. Captain Johnny Beckett and his fight ing smile are known throughout western football. One was never seen without the other. Johnny was all northwest tackle for three years and last year re ceived honorable mention in Walter Camp’3 All-American. He will play end so he can carry the ball. When the Captain’s 191 pounds get into action watch out. And they do every play. “Fighting Brick” Mitchell is one of the hardest tacklers in the conference. He is a good man to get away from the defensive halves. “Brick” comes back after every play. They coined the word “Jaz” to fit Brick. Big Bill Snyder, the biggest thing on the team, though he w’eighs 198 pounds, he is one of the fastest men on the squad. He is a mountain on a tear in the running of interference and opens up the opponent’s line for the back field plunges. When Bill stands in line he is hard to move. Jake Ritley has a way of going over the opposing line and getting a hold of the backs that spoils lots of plays. He is steady, scrappy and a sure passer. For two years he has held down the Northwest berth at center. Jake takes some of the work away from the ends when they get started too slowly. “Bart” Gpeiiman, the man with the big nerve, has had several portions of hard luck in injuries but they can’t seem to stop him much. “Bart” has not played a great deal of football but as one of the Multnomah players put it. j “When Spellman gets set in that line he i Vote for 65 X Charles P. Barnard To the Voters of Lane County: Having been nominated by the republican party for sheriff of Lane county, I think it is only fair to my friends to make a statement. . There seems to be a report started that on account of other interests I could not devote all of my time to the duties of the office. I considered all of this before I tried for the nomination, and if elected shall give ail of my time to the duties of the office and use the same economy that I do in transacting my own private business. If I am elected it will be by my friends in both parties, and without any thought of reward of any kind, as I would go into the office entirely free from any personal promises. Respectfully, CHARLES P. BARNARD (Paid advertisement) G. F. Skipworth Of Eugene, Oregon. Resent circuit judge for Lane, -incoln, Benton, Coos, Curry ind Douglas counties. Candidate .or re-election. He j has to spear the forward passes that are Wirown over. Lloyd learned his first football on the great Washington high team, that year three years ago when they cleaned un on the state. ‘'Kenny” Bartlett cannot or does not pull the grand stand stuff but he holds his own with the tackles and is in on the plays. It's pretty hard to get around right end. “Kenny” showed up strong against O. A. C. last year. Shy Huntington, the boy that gives the signals. Shy kieked the place kick in the game with O. A. C. in 1014, that E. B. U. SPECIALS. 22 Bible Students Take Secular Work at U. of 0. He throws the forward passes. Coach Bezdek builds the attacks around Shy. Everybody knows what Shy can do. Hollis Huntington is the only man on the team who had not won his letter before this year. Hollis has already one this year. His first game was with California and he was going strong. The Dalles products sound pretty good to Oregon. “Monty” Montieth. This is Monty’s second year on the team. He is building up into a strong back field man. He plays the safety and runs back the punts. “Monty” showed the stuff he had in him in the game with California. They can’t put him out of the game for long. Johnny Parsons has cost the school for telegrams and lost tempers the last week. Dobie seemed to think he was not eligible. He will play. Johnny has played for three years and seems to be going better than ever this year. He is an open field runner, though at Cali fornia he seemed to open the field .p running. He made 35 yards through the center of the California lire. Last year he was in Portland with the Mult nomah club. Ray Couch, the lightest man on the squad, weight 155 pounds. Ho plays the backfield but lightness holds him off the Varsity. Oregon students want to see Ray get into the game.| Pete Jensen is in his first year. He needs confidence but has lots of fight. He played a half in the game down south and showed up all right. “Bas” Williams of Eugene will make a good man next year to step into Spell man’s place at guard. He has a smile. Glenn Duley stands six feet one in his stocking feet and can run pretty fast. Played at California for a quar ter. This is the first year he has turn ed out and might have been on the team if he had come out before. Ward llcKinney isn’t broken in yet he is in line for a position next year. He is strong and shows a good deal of ginger. __ BUSINESS MEN WiLL ROOT. A squad of 200 Eugene business men. with a band of fifteen pieces, will root for Oregon today. Each member oflthe squad will wear a tri angular shaped badge in Oregon col ors bearing the inscriptions, “Knock ’em dead,” and “Eugene Business Men.” Their section is located east of the Oregon rooters near the 30 or 40 yard line. Many of the business men have re-, served from three to five seats in this section. IE® Club Barber Shop Is the place that all the Col lege men go for first class work. The Bible school is thus enabled to devote more of its at tention to religious subjects and leave the secular education of the students to the University. All of the Bible students have had the preparatory work required by the University. Frequently special students lake only one course in the University.
