Of the high school teachers of the state of Oregon, 191 are graduates of the University of Oregon. Of this num ber 30 aTe principals and two are city superintendents. These teachers are in almost every part of the state, there only being four counties in which the University is not represented, Curry, Grant, Jefferson, and Wallowa counties alone have not teachers from Oregon. Tesntaro Tatsugarai, ’15, who studied electrical engineering in the University of Oregon, is now employed by the Nip pon Electrical company, Ltd., at Tokio, Japan. Wallace Caufield, ’14, is working in the Oregon City National bank. Ray Gorman, ex. ’10, is with a sur veying crew in the lower Columbia river country. Karl H. Martzloff, ’13, who is attend ing Johns Hopkins medical school, writes that Hal Bean who is to be graduated was one of the five high men in his class and as a result was awarded a medical internship in Johns Hopkins hospital. This is a much coveted prize. 541 SPECIES IN CALIFORNIA. University of California—There are 541 distinct species of birds in the State of California, according to a book just published by Dr. Joseph Grinnell of the Department of Zoology.
