    DEBATE STILL IN All
Reed Now Wishes to Debar Woinei
From Triangular Foren
sic Meeting.
Women are again to be barret
from the triangular debate. Reet
College has refused to sign the con
tract unless three details container
in it are modified. Those concerning
women participating in the contest
both teams traveling away from the
college ,and the pooling of expenses
are the objectionable items.
The following is an extract of s
letter from Horace Miller of Reed
College to Cloyd Dawson, secretary
of the Forensic Council:
“We do not favor a team of men
debating a team of women or a team
of men debating a team composed of
a woman and a man. According to the
last press report you have come to
this same conclusion, so it should be
easy to come to an agreement where
by the men who are interested in de
bate at Reed College can meet the
men of the other colleges.’’
The matter of the teams leaving
the college is declared to be unwise
because the student body would not
lend their support unless they heard
one of their own teams in action.
According to the original plan, Reed
and Oregon should have met at Cor
vallis.
Corvallis so far has not objected
to any of the plans outside of want
ing the contract for more than one
year.

HOLD MONTHLY LUNCHEONS
Portland Alumni Plan to Discuss
University Problems at
Dinners
For the purpose of discussing Uni
versity and alumni problems, the
Portland alumni made plans at a
luncheon at the Hazelwood Friday,
November 12. to hold an informal
lunch together once a month.
John C. Veatch, ’ll, president of
the association, and Merwin Rankin,
’ll, secretary, will be helped in ar
ranging these plans by a committee
consisting of Fletcher Linn, ’90,
Grover Kestly, '12. and Carlton
Spencer, ’12, who will plan a pro
gram and obtain a speaker for each
luncheon.
The first luncheon will be held
Saturday, December 4, at the Hazel
wood, and the speaker will be an
nounced in the next issue of the Em
erald alumni page.
The plan is a sort of a business
proposition, as most of the members
lunch down town anyway, and dining
| together once a month will enable
them to get better acquainted.
