“BROWN OF HARVARD” TO BE PRESENTED MARCH 18 AND 19
JAMES W. MOTT, ex-’06 MERLIN G. BATLEY, ’16
Director of “Brown of Harvard’’ Tom Brown, in “Brown of Harvard’’
The Eugene Radiators’ production
next Thursday and Friday of Rida
Johnson Young’s college comedy,
“Brown of Harvard,” with an all
star cast of University of Oregon
players, will be an event which no
college man or woman can well af
ford to miss.
“Brown of Harvard” is generally
conceded to be the really great Amer
ican college play. For plot, camedy,
and realism, it stands head and shoul
ders above any other story of con
temporary college life.
"Brown of Harvard” had the long
est New York run of any college play
ever produced in America, and it has
the unique distinction of having made
a star of every principal in the orig
inal cast.
The production that will be seen
oughly professional. Mr. James W.
on the 18th and 19th will be thor
Mott, the director, is credited by the
press with having made the best pro
fessional stock production of “Brown
of Harvard” in the United States.
The Salem Capital Journal says
of Mr. Mott’s production of “Brown
of Harvard”:
“It is difficult to speak about the
play last evening without getting
foolish about it. It can’t be compared
with any local talent play that has
ever been put on here, because noth
ing even remotely approaching
“Brown of Harvard” has ever been
staged in Salem.
“Viewed purely from a profession
al standpoint, the production last
night could not have ben more per
fect; brand new scenery that brought
the Harvard campus right into the
Grand, wonderful stage effects that
might have come from Belasco’s
work shop, and most remarkable of
all, the amazing cleverness of the lo
cal cast, whose acting simply as
tounded the big audience, and left
the spectators with the impression
that they had seen an impossible feat
accomplished.”
“The local cast which will appeaer
in ‘Brown of Harvard,’ ” said Mr.
Mott, “is by all odds the best ama
teur cast I have ever directed in this
play. Every member is an exact
type for the part he is playing, and
I actulayy believe that the perform
ance they are going to give could
not be surpassed by any professional
stock company in America.”

A stiff hat with a
