ed with a Roseburg team on Thurs
day and Friday as a part of the an
nual Strawberry Festival held there.
The team will be the guests of the
T weight Bj&seball League of that
city during their stay.
The Strawberry festival at Rose
burg is an annual affair held In
the Southern Oregon town to cele
brate the opening of the strawberry
season in that city, famous, with its
surrounding country, for this fruit.
Coupled with this week of gaiety
it has become a custom for the en
tertainers to import Oregon’s second
team as a part of the entertainment
for the crowds. •
The second team is composed
largely of men who have been out
for ball all season and is a feward
for their faithfulness in helping
shape the varsity into action when
they are unable to hold down posi
tions there themselves.
The team this year will be enter
tained by the city from Thursday
until Sunday and are assured a good
time and all the strawberries that
they can eat. The team will bo ac
campanied by assistant-manager
Clark llurgard, who expects to win
the games. Oregon had little diffi
culty in walking away with the hon
ors last year. However it is report
ed that Roseburg has a picked team
this year aad Intends to put up a
better exhibition ol' the naional game
than thut of lust yeur.
The team as picked by assistant
manager Burgard, Manager Walker
and Coach Bezdek indicates that
Furney and Beckett will hold down
the mound and In case Fleming can
be spared from the varsity squad
which goes to Corvallis Friday, he
will probably be taken on the south
ern trip. The line-up is as follows:
Furuey and Beckett, pitchers; Kings
ley, catcher; Billings, 1st base;
Hughes, 3ml b; Williams, ss; Hun
tington, 3b; Wlilhelm, If.; Van Mar
ter, cf.; Fltzmaurice, rf.; One other
man will be taken.

Every University of Oregon student,
capable of donning a pair of track spikes
is eligible for the inter class track and
field meet to be held at the University
next Thursday afternoon.
The meet, an annual affair, will de
cide the class championship of the Uni
versity, and this year it will probably
lie between the freshmen and sopho
mores, as these two classes contain the
most truck material. Graduate Manager
Dean Walker has offered a cup for the !
class winner, and medals will be pro
vided for the individual point winners.!

one event, thereby minimizing tlicit
ability in the meet. The meet will be 1
held Thursday afternoon, in order not
to conflict with the training of the
Varsity squad for the conference meet
at l'ullmau next weak ut which the l ui

Musical Comedy to Be Staged
at Eugene Theatre
Saturday.
The senior class of Lincoln High
school of Portland will put on “Syl
vester,” a musical comedy at the Eu
gene theatre, Saturday night. The
production is of the pastoral var
iety, and according to press reports
is an extremely clever production.
Miss Minnie Nemorovsky is in the
title role and is said to have remark
able dramatic ability and an excel
lent soprana voice. Pinkerton Day
as a wealthy farmer, is the lead
man.
The liig'li school troupe has played
twice in Portland to full houses and
put on one matinee in that city.
Friday night they will show in Cor
vallis. During their stay in Eugene
they will be the guests of the fra
ternities and sororities on the cam
pus.
