Between 30 mid 40 students, among them live Seniors, are cur rently reported to have failed to pass muster in the examinations just fin ished. The report has uot, as yet, been substantiated by the registrar’s office, but the number is known to be in excess of those who were dropped by the 'wayside at this time last year. Tills might be taken as an indica tion of a weaker bunch of students at Oregon, but, as a general rule, men do not wait until their Senior year to flunk out of college. it would be far more reasonable to sup pc;se that the standard of scholar ship at. Oregon is actually being raised, and that the increased num ber of those who were left behind is due to the 10 per cent addition of difficulties which have been added to tlie average course. Studies are peculiar things. The avowed object of the average man coming to college is study, but, for some unknown reason, the old grade school idea that instructors and their subjects are by nature opposed to tlie interests of the students, still persists among the under-graduates. Studies are peculiar things, but the student who becomes possessed of the Idea that study is a joke, is taking an attitude that is likely to wind up sooner or later in grave dis aster. I'niversity of Oregon stand ards are going up, and the man or woman who falls to recognize this « fact is getting in line to receive con dolences. IM> YOl OUT YOl'K KM!£KALI)? Now please don’t “howl” at us, unless you have at least sent your name to us. We have no way of knowing where you are unless you tell us.
