At the suggestion of Miss Guppy and the Women’s Council, a mass meeting of all the women of the Uni versity was called April 24, in order to form a Women’s League. The Wo men’s Council conducted the meeting and it was decided by unanimous vote to form the league. The officers had been previously nominated by a com mittee from the Woman’s Council. Other nominations were also made at the meeting. The chosen officers are: Eleanor McClain president; Meta Goldsmith, first vice president; Faye Ball, second vice president; Hazel Tooze, secre tary; Minnie Poley, treasurer; Ellen Van Volkenburg, sergeant-at-arms, and Evelyn Harding, editor. 1 he purpose oi tne league is ro ] promote acquaintance, unity and loyalty among its members, both ac tive and associate, and to be a med ium by which the social standards of the University can be made and kept high. To make it possible for the women of the University of Oregon to in vestigate subjects of general im provement with facility and thor oughness and to inaugurate any of the work which may be deemed ad visable by the executive and advisory committees. The membership will be both active and associate. Active membership is open to all women of the University. Associate membership includes all the Faculty wives and the women of the Faculty. The League is governed by major ity vote, but the work of the associa tion will be carried on between meet ings by certain committees. The first of these, the executive committee, consists of the president, first and second vice presidents, sec retary, treasurer, the heads of all the women’s organizations, and heads of all general committees. The secood committee is the advis i ory board, which consists of associate I members elected by the executive committee. There will also be spe cial committees over each depart ment. The officers or the League ar e tne i president, first vice presidetn, who is i also chairman of the social commit tee, the second vice president, who is president of the Women’s Athletic League, secretary and treasurer, ser geant-at-arms, and editor. The first three are to be elected from the Senior class, the secretary and treas- j urer from the Junior class, and the' sergeant-at-arms and editor from the j Sophomores class. It is expected that the point sys tem. as used at the University of Wisconsin and other large Univer sities, will be adopted by the associa tion. By this system each girl is al lowed to carry only a limited number o of points at a time, each office count ing a definite number of points. The group system of committees, with one Senior over ten Freshmen girls, will also be adopted by the League. It is expected that these committees will also promote a closer ft i. ndship and unity between the classes. The first, official action of the or ganization will be the tea given to the visiting women on Commonwealth Hay, at Mary Spiller Hall. Now is the time to buy your Sum mer Millinery.
