o.ooooooooooc o THEATRICALS c oooooooooooc “The Servant in the House.” Charles Rann Kennedy’s master piece, “The Servant in the House,’ which will be staged at Eugene Theatre next Friday night by the members of Professor A. F. Reddie’s class in Dramatic Interpretation promises to be one of the most in teresting productions ever put on by a University caste. The play is of the problem type. The Vicar represents modem Chris tianity, casting off its shackles of dogmatism; Martha, a modem con ventionalism; Mary portrays the in nocence and purity of the next gener ation; Robert shows the workingman, becoming a power in the state through socialism; Rogers is a type of menial servant; the “stench and horror” un der the Church are shown in the character of the bishop, named a “devil” and “cast out forever” by Manson, the primitive spirit of Christianity. The strongest charac ters in the play are Manson and Mary. The audience may be assured that the four persons combined in the character of Manson, will be played with the finest technical skill by Pro fessor Reddie, and that Janet Young will strongly portray the simple sin cerity of Mary. Several sororities and fraternities will furnish the mission-oak furni ture; solid silver tableware and tea set will be used as well as the finest linen; real Oriental rugs and several prints from the masters will be loaned by friends of the University to make the stage as luxuriant and attractive as possible. Professor Reddie’s oriental costume is of his own design, and will be “constructed” by the young ladies in the class.
