    PRELIMINARY WORK ON
ON 0RE6ANA STARTED
EDITOR RICE HAS VACANCIES
IN STAFF TO FILL
Local Authors Will Contribute—Law
and Medic Departments to be
Represented.
Preparations are rapidly being
made for the 191M volume of the Ore
gana, which is to be issued as usual
during Junior Week-End. Editor
Don Rice has filled most of the vacan
cies caused by failure of old members
of the staff to return, but is, as yet,
unable to give out a complete list of
the staff.
Work in the humorous, art and
photographic departments is already
well under way, and the other de
partments will soon begin activities.
Wm. Cass, humor, Chester Hug
gins, athletics, Oscar Haugen and
Harry Viereck, art, and Edna Miller,
classes, will be unable to assume their
places on the staff this year.
Peter Crockett will have charge of
the department of forensics and
classes, Bess Cowdcn will be at the
head of the art department, while
Maurice Turpening will have charge
of the athletic features. Ap
pointments to fill remaining vacancies
are still pending.
A notable feature of the literary
department of the 191J Oregana will
be a number of college stories and
poems, written by local authors.
Editor Rice is contemplating a trip
to Portland in a few days to make
arrangements for the l.aw and Med
ical departments, which have not
yet been organized. Hawley Bean, as
business manager, will soon take
charge of the advertising, although
this department will not begin active
preparations until later in the se
mester.
UNCLE REWARDS NIECE
Ethel Roydell, who was granted the
Mary Spiller scholarship for the pres
ent school year, was recently surprised
when upon opening a letter, a hundred
dollar check fell to the floor.
Miss Roydell recently registered in
the University from Nyssa and took
up her residence in the Mary Spiller
house. It appears that she has an
uncle, whom she had not seen for some
time. Glancing over a daily paper, he
saw the notice of the awarding of a
scholarship to his niece, and as a re
sult, Miss Roydell was the recipient of
his check for one hundred dollars.
Hert denied and Tom Hoylen have
registered in college, after a late re
turn from the "Round-Up.”
