The “Steam Roller’’ suddenly put in an appearance again at the Soph omore election, held yesterday after noon at 1 o’clock, and the machine candidates were elected with little delay. Quaker Atmosphere Prevails. In the absence of Prexy Finch, Vice-President Edna Harvey called the 1915’s to order and maintained such discipline that it was with some difficulty that anyone opened the nominations. James Donald fin ally gained the floor, and, with a rapid flow of oratory announced the name of Frederic Hardesty as a pres idential nominee. When the voice of the speaker had died away, the crowd called it enough and the As toria lad was unanimously elected to lead the Sophomores for the coming year. The election of vice-president was similar. When the name of Mildred Healy was placed before the house, the crowd immediately called for bal lots and Miss Healy received unan imous choice. For secretary, Miss Gretchen Sher wood, of the city of Coquille, re ceived the entire ballot of the class. Treasurership Is Contested. The race for treasurer proved more exciting, three candidates wish ing to take charge of the class finances. In this race the well known sprinter, Clark Hawley, succeeded in running away from his opponents, Vosper and Blackaby, and received the majority of ballots. Clay Watson, the largest man of the class, was unanimously chosen to execute the duties of sergeant-at arms, and to Harold Grady fell the tedious task of yell-leader. Arrangements for Mix Made. After the election the matter of the Frosh-Sophomore mix was thov o. i lily discussed. For this mix Presi rcnt Hardesty has announced the fol lowing committees: Pushball, Clay Watson; tug-of-war, Clarence Bro therton; sandbag, Ernie Vosper; track, Clark Hawley; special stunt, Jessup Strang and Aaron Gould. Harold Grady was appointed chair man of the field and decorations com mittee, with Geary, Broadbridge, Curry and Misses Healy, Tooze, Sher wood, Barta, and Harvey, as assist ants.
