21. The above scraps of conversa
tion and others of like tenor were
caught by the society editor on the
campus within 24 hours.
The open hunting season for
“chicken” of the Freshman variety
was at its height Friday and came to
a close Saturday morning at 10
o’clock, which was the final hour for
the acceptance of “bids” from na
tional sororities by their rushees.
All day Friday animated groups of
co-eds, assembled in close formation,
were seen about the campus, in the
center of each a Freshman maiden.
The groups were cosmopolitan, usual
ly including members from almost
every sorority, mingled together in
the closest intimacy.
Friday evening the fateful invita
tions were sent out, and Postmaster
Page, of Eugene, was deluged with
dainty missives, enclosed in pink and
blue envelopes, delicately scented and
more delicately worded. Following is

most girls, while Miss McClain
thought that that amount was exces
sive.
Only one, Miss Dunham, was of the
firm opinion that the purchase should
be compulsory, others considering this
too harsh with the retention of the
non-transferable feature.
That the project is creating inter
est, is shown by the fact that it will
be the subject for debate at an early
