Makes Seventh Band of Greeks to be
Located at the University
of Oregon.
With the installation of the Delta
Sigma local fraternity as the Oregon
Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Theta,
on May .‘50, another national fratern
ity has gained foothold at Oregon,
making the seventh band of Greeks
to be located here. Phi Delta Theta
is generally reckoned among the lead
ing college organizations of its kind
in the United States. Its chapter
roll embraces seventy-three active
chapters and its history dates back to
1848, the date of its founding at
Miami University.
The initiative ceremonies took place
Thursday morning and afternoon in
Eagle’s Hall, Fifth and Willamette,
under the direction of active members
from Berkeley, Washington, and
Idaho, as well as alumni from the
Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco
clubs. Following initiation, the local
chapter house was dedicated to Phi
Delta Theta, after which a banquet at
the Osburn was tendered the new
Greeks. At present the Oregon
chapter is attending a province con
vention in Portland.
The charter members of the new
chapter are as follows: Wm. E. Mo
ses, Clarence W. Walls, L. Raphael
Geisler, Wendell C. Barbour, Harold
B. Cockerline, George A. Gabriel,
Walter A. Huntington, Edward F.
Bailey, Philip L. Hammond, Howard
F. Parsons, W. Homer Maris, Thomas

Ode to Dormitory Club Hash.
“Tell me not in mournful numbers,
That we meet again today,
All the scraps we had on Monday
Fixed up in the same old way.
Lamb and mutton, steak and stew, I
Ham and chicken, pork and beef,
In a motley mass of jumble
Served again to me and you.
Ah, 1 recognize those giblets,
There is one I could not crack;
O! Good evening, Mr. Gristle,
Ami that peck is coming back!
Friends of other meals, 1 greet you,
Greet you in the good old way:
Yes, dog-gone you, I will eat you,
Or you’ll come again some day.”—Ex.

I avoid all overlapping. It was finally
j decided to leave the whole matter of
duplication of studies to the special
[ committee, who would definitely and
clearly settle just what the various
courses should be.
Report of Committee.
The report of the special commit
tee on the millage tax is as follows’:
“Resolved, that it is the sense of this
committee that the revenue necessary
for the support of the educational
institutions of this state should be
raised through a millage tax; that
the amount which it appears is nec
essary for the proper support of the
University of Oregon and the Agri
cultural College, be provided through
the levy of a seven tenths of a mill
tax and that the amount so raised,
should be apportioned the two insti
tutions on the basis of four-seventh
to the Agricultural College, and
three-sevenths to the University of
Oregon, provided, however, that on or
after one year from date the gover
nor, state treasurer, secretary of
state, and the presidents of the re
spective boards of regents, acting as
a board, may reapportion said tax be
tween the two institutions upon
such equitable basis as to them may
seem just and proper.”
The last reports from Whitman
College show an epidemic of tonsili
tis. Twenty-six students are kept
indoors with the ailment.
