OREGON FESTIVAL DANCES GIVEN BY O. A. C. CO-EDS OREGON AGRICULTURAL COL LEGE, Corvallis, Ore., May 18.—In the festival of dances given last night in the gymnasium by the young wo men of the Oregon Agricultural Col lege classes in physical training, a round sum was obtained to defray the expenses of the interscholastic field meet, to which representatives were sent from 41 high schools of the state. Miss Winnifred Williams, assisted by Miss Frances Huston, had spent weeks in drilling the girls in a cleverly planned series of folk dances, national and fancy dances, Irish jigs and Scotch reels, minuets of the Louis XIV. era and Dutch wooden-shoe per formances, “the dance of the imps,” two Spanish dances, a series of seven dances from Finland, Sweden, Nor way, and a number of esthetic and national dances were given, for all of which the young women, clever with their needles as with their toes, had made their own fancy costumes. * * * * * CALENDAR * * Tuesday, May 21— * * 4:00 P. BOYS GIVE STAG PICNIC TONIGHT This afternoon the Y. M. C. A. men paddled up the race, crossed the river to the lagoon, and made camp in the woods for a practical picnic. While the bunch are enjoying themselves racing, canoeing and swimming, the social department, under Don Rice, will prepare supper. Dick Collier, at the head of the eats committee, has arrangements made for all to toast hot dogs over individual fires. After the feed, a big bonfire will be built, and the bunch will spend the evening in games and singing. Ed Bailey is manager of the ca noeing and other transportation, and Irwin Brooks has charge of the pro gram committee. O. A. C. BASKETBALL A MONEY MAKING GAME OREGON AGRICULTURAL COL LEGE, Corvallis, Ore.. May 17.—Bas ketball is a financial success at O. A. C. The report of J. C. Lcady, auditor of the Board of Athletic Control, shows over $700 net profits from the season’s games. It has been the most prosperous year since the establish ment of the sport. In many colleges the expenses of the basketball team must be met by the surplus from the football receipts. Here a net profit of $404.35 was made at the Corvallis Eyame with the University of Wash ington alone, where the expenses were M 54.50. Ray Murphy, ex-’13, has recently been appointed principal of the high school at Haines, Oregon, for next rear at a salary of $1,200. During the past year Mr. Murphy has dem mstrated his ability in the teaching ine by holding down a job as assist ant principal at Haines.
