PROVES MOST DELIGHTFUL AS WELL AS BENEFICIAL Whether one goes to summer school for credits, for knowledge, or for fun, he is sure to get what he seeks. Last year’s six weeks is a fit ting example. With a summer of exceptional mild ness, the students began their efforts. Seven hours’ study was the maximum requirement, pedagody, music, and languages the classes most attended. And outside of the hours for classes the fun began. Anyone who has seen Eugene, knows its material for en joyment. Every day prepared a pic nic party, a trip up the race, a climb up Spencer’s Butte; every day, fresh plans for dances and parties. The Dormitory was thrown open to the use of the students. The second floor was occupied by the boys, the third floor by the girls. The steps leading from one floor to the other, and screened from the view of curi ous onlookers, the place most popular for both. Then began the development of cases lasting throughout the summer. Dimples and gray hair alike received attention. Then grew friendships lasting through life. And the most noticable factor of all was the spirit of democracy which pervaded the school. Whereas form erly a few living in one house had the feeling of brotherhood, at summer school .the whole party, living in the same dormitory, eating at the same tables, attending the same dances and taking the same girls, brought a feel ing of brotherhood not soon to be eliminated. “And we’re going to have a much better time this year,’’ one enthusi astic devotee of the summer school exclaimed. “We’re going to go up the race twice as often, and do just twice as much dancing. And we’re going to get our lessons, too,—on the side. Wait and see.” And summer school attracts us all. Many and startling are the varie ties of hats worn by the male mem bers of the student body. Whereas girls formerly flaunted vagaries of style in head gear, now the boys have usurped this ancient right. Stiff, unbending hats, jaunty, de fiant hats, coquettish, turned-up hats, pugilistic hats; hats to match neck ties, socks, eyes; hats to match dispo sitions, temperament, and the natural man,--all pass like a panoramic view past the windows of the dignified and startled library. Counciling with the coquettish and mischievious nature of Kadie Roberts is the hat which he now effects. Turned down delicately over one ear, and up defiantly over the other one, it couquets with passers-by. Not less fetching is the bonnet worn by Ty Cobb. Delicately de signing is the appearance which it presents to the appealing gaze of outclassed co-eds. And these out-classed co-eds refuse to compete with these superior efforts of the male sex. Modestly passing, bare-headed, they watch with fasci nated interest the accomplished feat of these fashion mongers. Rut they console themselves with the poet that at last they will no more be driven with the distressing appellations of Professor Howe, who alone, with them, refuses to accept the appalling features of the latest in hats. See the weather man guffam at the little earth people. Last year plans for a canoe carnival were made and it rained. Now no carnival queen, no decorated canoes, no tilting matches, and it sunshines. The certainty of winning favor from the weather man, be he ever so gracious, is as doubtful as having the referendum go through. Cheer up, it will sunshine next year! Mildred Bagley, member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, is one of the most well-known and popular sen iors in college. She is a great en thusiast as well as partaker in all athletics. She has the honor of being the champion woman tennis player of the University and also won the cup at the girl’s indoor track meet for having gained the greatest number of single points.
