SUMMER SCHOOL LIFE OFFERS RIG VARIETY In Addition to Regular Studies, Nine Day Chautauqua Course May Be Given Dr. Schaefer, speaking of the com ing term of Summer School, predicts the largest attendance and the most notable gathering of instructors and lecturers in the history of the Uni versity. The attendance will consist chiefly of teachers, and students mak ing up college credits, though a great many others have already signified their intention of coming, attracted by the excellence of the curriculum. In addition to the program offered by the University, the local Commer cial Club plans to hold a nine-day Chautauqua Assembly on the cam pus during the term of the Summer School. According to the plans al ready arranged, such men as Rev. Dr. Aked, of San Francisco, Thomas N. Carver, of Harvard. John Mitchell, President of the Federation of Miners, and others of equal note, will be pre sented during the midday session, while a musical program will be given every evening. If the Chautauqua Assembly is secured, the University will provide camping grounds on or near the campus for the convenience of families desiring to attend. Some of the instructors and lec turers thus far secured for the Sum mer School are: Dr. Grant Showerman, of the Uni versity of Wisconsin, Roman Life, Life, Literature and Ideals; Dr. A. A. Berle, Intensive Training of Children; Professor Seldon L. Boyd. Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Portland, Ministerial Efficiency. Besides these and the regular corps of University instructors, there will be at different periods lectures by the various county school superintendents and by Ex-Superintendent Ackerman and State Superintendent Alderman, on Rural School Supervision. ********** * NOTICE * * _ * * Please pay your Emerald sub- * * scription at the Y.
