    Meadow Lark Hit First Time.
Anne McMicken, while on a jaunt
to Spencer’s yesterday, shot a meadow
lark with a 22 rifle and shot him the
first time, too. The victim was
brought to Eugene and buried in the
Gammi Phis yard and on the tomb
ston these words were written: “The
angel band in heaven was not com
plete, so they took our darling mea
dow lark to fill the vacant seat.” The
truth of the statement is sworn to by
Mason Roberts, Ruth Dunneway, Helen
Beach, and Prokos.
Lee Watched the Plano Tuned.
(Emerald official news service.)
The Gamma Phis had their piano
tuned yesterday, and Lee, the Chinese
cook, in order not to run any risk of
the piano tuner annexing any Gamma
furniture, planted himself in the room
and watched the operation on the
noise box from beginning to end. He
complained of being a trifle tired after
it all.
JOAQUIN MILLER’S
BROTHER VISITS LIBRARY
Continued from page 1.
‘Naw,’ said another, ‘that’s Joaquin
Mentis,’ and as Miller was rather
flattered by the name, he called him
self Joaquin after that.”
Editors Are Mean Men.
“Say, who are you, anyway,” in
quired Jim of the student who had
asked him the questions, “are you a
professor?”
“No. I’m only editor of the college
paper,” replied the student.
“Well. You couldn’t place yourself
any lower, I guess. An editor is
about the meanest, lowest man I know
of.”
