The baseball fans about the campus v/ere treated to a surprise this week when Father Tom Kelly and his bro ther, King Kelly, blew into town to look over the baseball situation. The two old leaguers were out Monday and Tuesday nights looking over the Varsity squad and giving the candi dates a few tips on inside baseball. King Kelly is an old minor league star, having caught for a number of years in the middle West and on the Coast. He has been spending his aft ernoons in tutoring “Cap” Jamison’s aspiring receivers. * * Tom Kelly’s keen eye saw a chance to improve the infield by switching Cady Roberts to short and putting Dutch Anunsen on the difficult corner. Cady’s speed enables him to cover a world of territory. Anunsen breaks in fast on ground balls and has a good whip across to first. * * The regulars and Yannigans have been having daily games since last Saturday. The regulars have been lining up with Jamison. Newland, Rob erts and Anunsen, infielders, Barber, Mount and Chandler, outfield, and Word and Cobb, catchers. * * Capt. Jamison now has Peet, Welch, Grady, Fisher, Dorris, Moore, and Griffin turning out for a pitching job. With such an array of talent on hand, a couple of pitchers ought to be de veloped. * * The regulars and Yannigans both are hitting the ball high, wide and handsome. It looks like a good bunch of stickers on the Varsity this year. * * Carl Fenton turned out in a suit Monday to limber up. The big boy looks better than ever this year. * * Capt. and Coach Olson, of Washing ton, picks Jamison and Staatz as for wards, Fenton, center, and Mattson, 0 A. C., and Keeler, Washington, guards. The Washington captain is minus a grouch on the question of cen ters. He picks Fenton because he is Savage’s equal on floor work and bas ket shooting and a better man in dribbling. Bohler, Stewart, and Sweetland, differ with Olson by pick ing Savage. * * * Sap Latourette and Erce Kay have deserted the cinders for the diamond.! Both are working out for an infield' berth. * * * From early season form it looks; like Cady Roberts will have a better | year than last. It looks as if he has | things pretty much his own way | around the difficult corner. Mrs. Powell entertained several i prominent faculty and town women at the Beth Reah House last Satur day. Tea was served after a pleasant afternoon. Mrs. Warner has spent several days with her son Harold and was one of the patronesses at the Beta dance.
