What About the Big Issue?
In all this squabble over who gets
the technical confernece champion
ship in basketball, let us not forget
the big issue that underlies it—will
(). A. C. consent to the resumption of
athletic relationship that Oregon has
long asked for and urged? Reports
state that our sister college is much
riled up over the presumption of Ore
gon to claim the conference champion
ship in basketball, and is not going
to smoke the pipe until she finds out
whether or not Oregon concedes the
championship to her. The last Bro
meter in commenting on an article of
Geary’s, laying claim to Oregon’s
right, said, “Does this article have any
bearing on the resumption of stud
ent relations between the II. of O. and
O. A. C.? Think it over.” Heavens
alive! sister, what’s this got to do
with the resumption of relations. Do
you think we are not sincere in our
desire to have the conference cham
pionship and in our right to it? Do you
think that for one minute we think
you have a better team than ours, or
that you have won the honor any more
than we? Well, you are mistaken, if
you do. Your claim is a technical one
and so is ours, and ours is made
stronger than yours by the fact that
we have tried all season to get games
out of you and you have refused
them. We are trying not to discredit
you, but to exhalt ourselves.
But what’s all this got to do with
our resuming relations again. Are
you so sensitive by nature that you
cannot stand to be displeased? Are
you so independent that you can make
Oregon pay for the privilege of play
ing you? Here at Oregon, whenever
you do anything that displeases us.
our attitude is not one of “well, 1 wont
play,” but “let me at em." We real
ize that you are necessary to us for
several reasons, as we are necessary
to you, and we are tired of letting in
fantile reasons stand in the way. We
are not satisfied with a percentage
championship and wish to settle it in
the only complete way by playing
you. but we will not buy our way to
your side by granting you the conses
sion of meeting you in forensics or
consede you the conference champion
ship now at stake, as you have tried
to get us to do. That is not a fair
way to meet us and we will not meet
you on any grounds but fair ones.
If you wish to escape the criticism
now being hurled at you by the whole
Northwest that you are afraid to
play Oregon in spring sports there is
just one way to do it: l’ut aside your
wounded feelings and come across
like good sport men with a few games.

ZEDNICK AWARDS OREGON
Continued from first page.
In view of the fact that only one
other conference representative, Boh
ler, of W. S. C., has declared positively
in favor of awarding 0. A. C. the
honor, it looks as though Oregon will
secure not only the Northwest cham-!
pionship, but the conference cham-’
pionship as well.
