Wray Circulation Clay Watson, ’15 Saturday, March 16, 1912. Oregon's Claim to the Northwest Basket ha II Championship. Oregon has again won the right to a Northwest championship. The sec ond victory over Washington, won last night in one of the most grilling, heartrending, exciting contests ever fought on the local floor, placed Ore gon at the head of the percentage list in basketball, with eight victories out of ten games and O. A. C. second with seven victories out of nine games, as scheduled in the conference meet. O. A. C. has played two extra confer ence games, but as they were sched uled after the series had commenced, they will not count in percentage re sults, according to the rule that has been aderred to in deciding confer ence championships during the past two years. During the entire season, Oregon has lost but two games, Washington has lost five, and O. A. C. three. Oregon and O. A. C. both lost and won two games from Washington, and O. A. 0. lost to Gonzaga College, of Spokane, which college lost to Ore gon by a large score. This championship is, of course, a percentage championship only, and is not ns satisfying a claim ns Oregon would like to have. The only logical and complete way to settle the matter' would be for Oregon and O. A. C. to meet and fight it out, but as our friends across country have turned a deaf ear to our overtures of peace for the past two months, because, as we think, they feared the results of spring contests with Oregon, the signing of a basketball contract, at this late date, is hardly a possibilty. Oregon is proud of her basketball team and believes it to be really su perior to any in the Northwest. A combination of players superior to Jameson, Fenton, Walker, Rims, Brad shaw. and Rader, would be hard to find any place when it comes to real fighting spirit like that displayed last night i?i overcoming a lead of ten points and snatching victory from what looked like sure defeat. Our men are entitled to and have won the admiration and gratitude of every one on the campus, and the victories they have won will long remain fresh in the memories of Oregon boosters. Knlargement Being Forced On I s. It looks os though our ambition to enlarge tin* Emerald wort* going to, be realized at last, Our new manager has succeeded in convincing the busi ness men of this city that the Kmerald is a ►rood advertising medium to such an extent that we have been com pelled to add two extra pages to the regular issue and he has filled the greater part of them with advertis jng. This is of course gratifying to us from several standpoints the more material ones of which we by no means hold least important. 1 ruly, it looks as though the Emerald will pan out gold instead of dross. The regular student body dance, held after the Washington game last night, was attended by approximately eighty couples, and as a general jolli fication and effort to entertain the visiting collegians, the affair proved entirely satisfactory to Manager Geary and those interested in promit ing the social event. “Candida” Sayings. “The onions have come.”—Prossy (Nancy Noon) Candida, Eugene thea tre, Monday, March 25. “Eeverybody loves her, they can’t help it.”—Morrel (Forest Dunton). “Candida,” Eugene theatre, Monday, March 25. “Wot! is Prossy’s coplaint.”—Bur gess (Alex.
