PLANS FOR SPARKLING
COUNT) FAIR ON TAP
Beer Garden, Orpheum Circuit and
Minstrel Show Among the Star
Attractions.
The plans for the Y. \Y. C. A. Coun
ty Fair are progressing rapidly. The
stunt committee already has a long
list of excellent stunts in hand, but
as cxp.essed a desire that those who
have not already applied, do so
immediately. Among the chief amuse
ments will be the Orpheum Circuit
Show, under the management of Nor
ton Cowden, who says he has some
juicy bits to present to the public in
the form of singing and dancing,
sleight-of-hand tricks and tight-wire
performances. One of the big attrac
tions will be the “Bigger and Better
Minstrel Show,” which everyone can
see for the price of admission. The
fact that Glen Storie is to be interlo
cutor and Sap Latourette and Mason
Roberts end-men, is in itself a guar
antee of its success, and they are as
sembling a chorus of good voices,
which will warble “Stop Kickin’ My
Dog Aroun’,” and other up-to-minute
ditties.
The partial list of stunts contains
such promising things as “The Streets
of Cairo.” “Roulette Wheel,” “Living
Statues,” and “A Kiss for a Nickel,”
“Dirty Dora,” and “Zeno, the Snake
Charmer,” and “German Beer Gar
den,” a title which ought to tempt the
boys from the Springfield nickel
odeons.
There will be ice-cream cones, con
fetti, candy, and soda pop on tap, so
that no one need go hungry or thirsty.
The fair is listed on the calendar for
next Saturday evening, in the men’s
gym and the price of admission is to
be twenty-five cents, for children and
adults alike, and it all goes for
sweet charity’s sake in general and
the ever present bungalow fund in
particular.

OUTLOOK FOR BASEBALL
Coach Jamison Enthusiastic Over
Baseball Material—Pitchers,
However, Lacking
The 1911 baseball season begins
this afternoon, with practice on the
campus diamond, under Captain Ja
mison, who has been elected by the
Athletic Council to coach this season.
Jamie is willing to devote his time
to turning out a good team, but
draws the line at picking the men.
“Let some one pick the team, and I
will coach it,” he says. “Competition
will be keen, especially for infield po
sitions, so it will be mighty hard to
name the right man for each place.”
Prospects for a winning club are ex
ceedingly bright. The old men who
will report are: Roberts, Chandler,
Anundsen, Word, Fenton, Barbur,
Mount, Peet, Cobb, Newlands and Van
Marter. All we lack is a supply of
good pitchers.
“There are four games scheduled
with Washington, two with W. S. C.,
and probably two with Multnomah
Club, and a week-end trip to South
ern Oregon. We had a trip to Cal
ifornia, but the faculty objections ren
dered it impossible. * * * N0t
I haven’t signed a Coast League con
tract, and I’m going to be here till
June.”
During the last week laborers have
been busy getting the infield into con
dition, and if the present June wea
ther continues it will not be long until
the aspiring Wagners get into mid
season form.
