The management of track athletes at Oregon has decided to reverse the former decision and to enter a team in the Indoor Track and Field Meet, to be held at Columbia University Sat urday, April 13th. Oregon will probably enter eight or ten men in this meet, and if their straight line of victories for the last six years is any indication, may add another purple banner to the varsity trophy room. This early in the sea son it is impossible to make any fore cast as to the makeup of the team, but Bill says that Captain Kellogg is al most certain to go and Martin Haw kins, who has Olympic aspirations, is also a possiblity. Aside from these, however, nothing is settled, and those who wish to get their names on the Imperial Hotel register at the expense of the Oregon management, will have to do some good hard work. The complete list of events shows 28 in number, including the academic events. Gold and silver medals will be given for first and second place re spectively for each of the eleven open events and several cups will be offered. The meet is under the management of James H. Bach, of the Columbia University faculty. It is expected that several hundred athletes, aca demic, collegiate, and unattached, will compete. Socialists Will Convene. Socialism, pro and con, will be the theme for discussion in a club of Uni versity students this semester, if suf ficient interest is shown to justify an organization. The belief that our in dustrial adjustment will be the great poliitcal issue of the future, has led college students of political science and economics to take a deep interest in the growing socialist movement. In order to promote discussion, social ist clubs have been founded in all of the leading universities of the United States. A meeting will be held on Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock in Dr. Schmidt’s room, at which time organ ization will be discussed. Those in terested in socialism, whether friend ly or hostile, are invited to be pres ent and express their views on the subject. OREGON FRESHMEN 10 PUir PORTLAND STARS Rapid Aggregation from (.’lass of '15 Pitted Against \Y. H. S. Basket Shooters. When the varsity freshmen meet the interscholastic champions of Port land tonight on the basketball floor, the class of '15 will be given a rare opportunity of demonstrating whether or not the one semester of college has made any improvement in their ath letic ability. The frosh aggregation, under the leadership of Tommy Boylen, have been practicing most industriously of late and are quite confident of victory. On the other hand the Washington High five are probably just as fast as the freshmen and will certainly out weigh them. The freshman lineup is as follows: Forwards, Watson and Vosper, guards; Boylan and Parsons, center; Gould. The exact positions of the prep, school men are not known, but they will pick their team from the follow ing eight: Irle, Foster, Krohn, Ed wards, Knouff, McLaren, Roth, Mar tin. Although the game is listed for 8:15, it may be slightly postponed to enable those attending the Y. M. C. A. meeting to attend the game. New Course' Offered. Serving to aid the teachers of the state, the correspondence department has arranged a new course for its members. As all state teachers are required to do a certain amount of outside reading each school year, in order to retain their certificates, a course has been devised, called Scientific Study Methods, which enables the teachers, organized throughout the state into Reading Circles, to gain more from their required reading, than they are otherwise enabled to. This course is especially popular in rural districts, where access to libraries is not easy. Enrollment in the Correspondence School Department increased slightly over that of last semester, still re maining well over three hundred. Rose Basler left for Portland, Wed nesday, and will return Sunday. Anson Cornell spent the mid-week at the Kappa Sigma House. The men’s open golf tournament to qualify for the finals for the Faraway Cup will be finished by Wednesday, and it is expected that some twelve or fifteen village and varsity enthus iasts will dig up the green in the next few days in their efforts to win the ring. Rumors of low scores have been floating about the campus for some time, also some vague suspicions that the hole is a circle of about a yard in diameter and that a close proximity is “in.” Under competent officials, it is like ly that some will explain their twenty or thirty extra strikes by “hard luck,” and other words, but no previ ous “viva voce” records will stand. Shovels will not be allowed to extri cate balls from the bunkers, and no practicing between strokes will be al lowed. A sound proof shelter will be provided for men only, where mishaps may be explained. The Girl of the Pingree Shoe We Give Ease Where Others Squeeze WILCOX BROS.
