OR EGON PLAYS PULLMAN MONDAY AND TUESDAY “Longs” and “Shorts” and Freshman Teams to Play Preliminary Contests. The “Longs” and the “Shorts” will try conclusions in a basketball game, which will come as a preliminary to the game with W. S. C., scheduled for next Monday night. The personnel of the “Longs” will be chosen from such lengthy fellows as Bob Kellogg, Fen Waite, E. Street, Edwin Sternberg, Wallace Caufield, Claude Still, and “Socrates” Myers. Among the midgets who are candi dates for the teams of “Shorts” are Buford Jones, Irwin Brooks, Billy McAllen, Wu Sun, Harry Lytle, and Claude Washburne. The “Shorts” and “Longs” will meet in the Men’s Gymnasium, Friday, at 4 o’clock, to elect captains, and two or three prac tices will be endulged in before the eventful struggle Monday night. The crack little freshman team, if Manager Eddie Dorr consents, will line up against the Eugene High School quintet as an appetizer to the second game with Washington State, on Tuesday evening. The Pullman games promise to be fast, grueling struggles, for Hay ward’s men and it is considered for tunate that a week and a half elapses between these contests and the date for the two Washington games on Thursday and Friday, March 14 and 15. The score of the Oregon vs. S. W. C. game, played during the recent trip at Pullman, was 18 to 13, with Ore gon two field baskets and one foul to the good. The Oregon five will have no advantage in being on their home floor, as the Washington State “Gym” is fully as large as Oregon’s. The ticket sale for the Pullman games will open at Obak Cigar Store and Linn’s Drug Store, on Friday morning at 10 o’clock. ROTSCHILD’S BULLDOG TURNS MURDERER AND IS KILLED Joe Rotschild’s pedigree bulldog “King,” not content with the ordin ary humdrum frat house existence, started something last Saturday morning, that ened rather disast rously. While out with a surveying party, in East Eugene, “King” espied a cow, with which he forthwith proceded to mix. At first a full “Nelson” on the animal’s left ear was the best that “King” could do, but finally a “grapevine” on the cow’s throat was secured. In the course of her flight, the bovine representative essayed to jump a ditch, but not being in good form, failed to make the distance, breaking a leg and dislocating some joints, so that the only recourse was via the pistol route. “King” was soon in ill repute with the cow’s owner, and in order to ap pease the latter’s wrath, an unsuc cessful attempt was made to hie the canine to other lands. But the at tempt failed, and “King” took his place among the immortals. Betas Face Starvation. With starvation staring them in the face, the Beta Theta Pi’s are ready to offer a fabulous sum to anyone who can even brown toast or scramble eggs. In other words, they are without a cook, and until one is found who can provide three “squares” a day. War ner will pasture his hungry ones at various places, where refreshments are served. APPROACHING TRACK SEASON (Continued from first page.) borhood of $300, which expense, it is needless to say. the U. of O. student body is in no condition to stand.” Besides this. Manager Geary is in communication with the Washington High track manager and hopes to se cure a meet between that team and the Oregon Freshmen as a stopover date for the High School boys on their return from the Southern trip.
