Washington High School Team to
Meet First Year Men in Varsity
Gym Saturday.
Interest in the basketball game
scheduled for Saturday night between
the Oregon Freshmen and the team
from Washington High School, has
been intensified by the victory of the
latter aggregation over Jefferson
High, giving them the undisputed in
terscholastic championship of Port
land. The score by which the East
Portland quintet demonstrated its
class was 21 to 15. In addition to
winning the championship title, the
Washington bunch is well represented
on the all-Portland interscholastic
team, two men, Edwards and Irle, hav
ing been named for that honor.
The Oregon Freshmen are practic
ing hard for their game with the
prepers and have their team work
fairly well perfected, although in this
respect they will be at a disadvantage
with the visitors, who have played to
gether all season. However, the
Freshmen probably have the edge on
their opponents in the matter of in
dividual stars, and expect to make up
in this way for their lack of team
work. The first half will be played
under Amateur Athletic Union rules,
and the second half under Intercolleg
iate Association rules, giving each
team an even break, as Washington
High has been using the former and
the Freshmen the latter style of play.
The Freshmen played a practice
game with Eugene High School this
afternoon at 4 o’clock. Tommy Boylen
is captain of the team and Eddie Dorr
is manager. It is expected that the
crowd will be large enough to at
least defray the expenses of bringing
the prepers here. The two teams will
line up as follows:

Van Marter Is Better.
La Verne Van Marter, ’12, who has
been convalescing at the Moxley
House, on East 13th street, is rapidly
becoming stronger after his operation
for appendicitis. He has hopes of re
turning to college within a fort
night.

GERMAN CLUB MEETS
Meet At Lambda Rho House and Hold
Interesting Program—Will Suspend
Unfaithful Members.
The regular meeting of the German
Club was held Tuesday evening at the
Lambda Rho House. In order to se
cure a better attendance in the future,
a motion was passed to automatically
suspend any member who neglected to
attend for three consecutive meetings
without an acceptable excuse. An en
joyable program was given, including
“A Paper On German Costumes,” by
Miss Messenger, “A Paper on Ger
man Peasant Festivals,” by Miss
Dorthea Campbell, and the reading of
poems by Miss Applegate and Miss
Struck. Miss McQuinn favored the
club with a solo. The latter part of
the meeting was spent in German con
versation. The next regular meeting
of the club will be held on Tuesday
evening, March 12.

A monster “bean feed” has been
arranged by the Young Men’s Chris
tian Association for Thursday even
ing at 6 o’clock in the city Y. M. C.
A. building. Prominent and popular
speakers will enliven the meal. Presi
dent Campbell will deliver an ad
dress, and Gale Seaman, the popular
student secretary of the Northwest,
will be on hand to enliven the occa
sion.
The purpose of this feed is to get
the Y. M. C. A. men together for a
good social hour, and to get them in
line to boost the meetings that will
be held during the next three days by
Mr. Charles D. Hurrey.
These meetings are considered the
greatest thing that will come in to the
religious life of the University during
the year. Mr. Hurrey is a prominent
fraternity man and graduate of Mich
igan. He has already visited the
Idaho and Washington Universities
and his work there is reported to be
of a high order.
The Oregon Association expects to
lay plans at its Thursday evening
feed, to give Mr. Hurrey as rousing a
reception as he has received from the
other institutions of the West.
Blankets Unclaimed.
Four Indian blankets, used at the
Freshman Glee, are still unclaimed.
The owners will find them at the Gam
ma Delta Gamma House.

Oregon Club Eliminated by Theta
Team In One of the Best Games
of Season.
The Freshmen girls lost to the Soph
omore girls by a score of 11-8 Monday
evening. The game was fast from the
start, the play being more individual
than as a team.
At the close of the first half the
score stood 6-5 for the Sophomores.
The Freshmen tied the score early in
the second half, but Hazel Rader saved
the game by two baskets and a foul.
The lineup was: Freshmen—Vera
Moffett (captain), Ada Hall, Gretchen
Sherwood, forwards; Elsie Bain, Helen
Johnson, Vera Moffett, guards; Geor
gia Searcey, Fairy Leach, centers.
Sophomores—Hazel Rader (cap
tain), Florence Avery, forwards; Bess
Riddell, Bess Cowden, guards; Bess
Young. Georgia Prather, centers.
The Oregon Club was eliminated
from the Emeral Cup series when they
lost to Theta by a score of 11-8 some
time ago. The game was character
ized throughout by especially good
team work and clean fast play, the
score at the end of the first half
standing 6-6.
The Theta lineup was: Forwards,
Hazel Rader (captain), Frances
Adams; guards, Bess Cowden, Elsie
Bain; centers, Gertie Taylor, Eleanor
McClain.
The Oregon Club played: Forwards,
Ada Hall, Vera Moffett (captain);
guards, Maude Nail, Melissa Martin;
centers, Georgia Searcey, Ruth Smith.
