Associated Students Meet.
The regular meeting of the stud
ent body was held at the assembly
hour this morning in Villard. The
minutes for the meetings of the past
year were read and approved. It was
definitely announced that the school
would enjoy a holiday on Thursday,
Washington’s birthday, and a basket
ball game between Washington High
of Portland and the Oregon Freshman
was announced for March 2. As no
special business was to be considered,
the meeting adjourned.
Assitant Manager Wanted.
Walter Dobie has left college, leav
ing vacant his position as assistant
manager of the Emerald. Any one
desiring the position should hand their
names to Leon Ray, or the executive
committee before next Wednesday.

15 BASKETBALL TEAM
Freshmen “Quintet" to Play Visitors
Here in Two Weeks—Close Game
Is Assured.
The varsity basketball fans will be
treated to a snappy exhibition on
March 2, when the Freshmen team
closes in the death grip with the
strong five from Washington High
School of Portland.
The game should be worth seeing,
for while the Freshmen perhaps num
ber more individual stars in their
lineup, they will be up against a
quintet which has been playing to
gether all season, and consequently
will have the advantage in team work.
The visiting team comes well recom
mended by all the other prep schools
of Portland, each of the latter hav
ing fallen a victim to the Washington
bunch.
The Freshmen finished in second
place in the recent inter-class league
race, but the lineup which will appear
Saturday night will not be the same
as that which was played in the for
mer games. The team will be weak
ened by the absence of “Pinkey”
Rader, who has been recruited by
Captain Jamison for his first team
squad. Several new men who have
not played before are now trying out,
however, and the varsity youngsters
still expect to nose out a victory over
the visitors.
It is announced that the game will
commence at 7:30 sharp, in order to
avoid aclash with certain social func
tions which are scheduled for the
same evening. A silver offering will
be taken at the door in order to sat
isfy the Southern Pacific Company
and other unreasonable claimants
whose assistance will be needed to
stage the big contest. A return en
gagement will be played in the Wash
ington High gymnasium in Portland
a week later.
The Freshman lineup will be chosen
from Boylen, Vosper, Gould, Watson,
Boyce Fenton, DeBarr, Parsons,
Street, and Bigbee.
VARSITY TRIP SUCCESS
Basketball Team Scores Six Victories;
Two Defeats and Reputation for
Sportsmanship.
The Oregon five returned to Eugene
Sunday afternoon, bringing with them
six victories, two defeats, and about
seventy-five dollars to add to the stud
ent body treasury, the last named be
ing due to Coach Hayward’s manage
ment. There is no tendency among
members of the team to crab about
the loss of both games with Washing
ton. Clementson, last year’s Wash
ington captain, who refereed the
games, gave both sides a square deal,
according to Captain Jamison. In the
second game Clementson called no
fouls in the second half when the score
was close and let field baskets only
count.
Graduate Manager Geary received a
letter last Monday from the director
of athletics of Gonzaga College, com
menting on the sportsmanship of the
Oregon quintette and expressing a de
sire for future relations with Oregon
teams. As a contradiction comes a
wild howl from the Walla Walla Y. M.
C. A. of the manner in which the Ore
gon team greased the floor. The habit
of putting vaseline on rubber soled
shoes to prevent slipping, was entirely
new to the Walla Walla fans, who
threatened several times to take the
floor themselves. This was the only
non-college team met during the trip
and proved to be the only place where
the Oregon team experienced any diffi
culty.
Chemists Organize Club.
A new club is being organized this
afternoon among the scientific minded
students of the University. It is to
be called the “Chemistry Club” and
will draw its membership largely from
the mixers of various concoctions per
mitted in dry towns. The purpose of
the club is social as well as scientific
mutual benefit and a program will be
given at each meeting.
