NEWS ITEMS FROM
THE Y. M. C. A. QUARTERS
The University Y. M. C. A. has ex
tended the scope of its operations to
include the High Schools boys of the
city. Plans have been perfected for
the organization of a number of Bible
study classes in the High School un
der the leadership of college men.
This work has been placed under the
management of a special cabinet offi
cer, and considerable interest is be
ing taken in it by both High School
and College students. ,
The address which the Y. M. C. A.
was to have heard from Mr. Marshall
N. Dana of the Portland Journal, had
to be postponed indefinitely on ac
count of a telegram received at the
last moment stating that an unex
pected business turn had made it im
possible for him to come. This was a
serious disappointment to the asso
ciation, as Mr. Dana is known widely
as a lecturer of great ability.
The Y. W. C. A. and Y. M. C. A.
cabinets will have a social meeting at
the Chi Omega House on the even
ing of Wednesday, January 10.

MANAGER CECIL PLANS
FOR ANOTHER CONCERT
Chance to Combine With Famous
California Club for Engagement
January 13th.
There is still considerable uncer
tainty as to the second appearance of
the Oregon Glee Club in Eugene. An
effort is being made by Manager Pat
Cecil to hold a dual performance
along with the University of Califor
nia Club, which is touring the North
west at the present time.
The Berkeley Club appeared at the
local theatre during the holidays.
When negotiations were opened by
Manager Cecil, their manager signi
fied a willingness to combine with
Oregon for a concert to be given next
Saturday, January 13th. Manager
Smith of the Eugene theatre, refused
a special rate to the combined clubs,
and the result was that the Califor
nia manager wired from Seattle his
refusal to consider the Eugene date.
Fearing to lose the engagement alto
gether, Manager Smith, when ap
proached yesterday, offered a more
: liberal inducement. This news was
promptly wired to the Berkeley man
ager and an answer is expected today.
Should the concert be given, a big
turnout is expected, since the majority
1 of Oregon students have not heard
! the famous globe trotting Californian
i Club, which toured Europe last year.
And a great many of those, who have
heard both the Oregon and visiting
club, would attend in order to com
pare the local songsters, which a
Southern Oregon critic styled “the
best Glee Club west of the Missis
sippi,” with the tropical song birds
from the Southern State.
GEARY TALKS ON 0. A. G.
Student Manager Deplores Attitude
Taken by Dolan in Recent Peace
Conference.
Apropos of the recent dilatory ac
tion taken by O. A. C. in the matte]
of resuming athletic relations witl
Oregon, graduate Manager Geary has
come forward with a few rather point
ed statements, which may greatly aic
in showing the real attitude of th(
agricultural college and of her rep
resentative toward the University.
In summing up his experiences with
Dolan, the Corvallis football coach,
Mr. Geary said: “At the conference
meeting at Portland, Dolan and I real
ized that we were not empowered to
enter into negotiations for our respec
tive institutions. In the personal con
versation we had concerning the mat
ter, both Dolan and myself expressed
ourselves as being favorable to the re
newal of athletic relations between
Oregon and O. A. C. Dolan admitted
that the initial action should come
from 0. A. C., but desired me to as
sure him of a football game before he
took the matter up with the O. A. C.
student body. I told him that neither
the athletic council nor the faculty
would consider the matter as long as
the resolution passed by the O. A.
C. students was in effect. I said far
ther, that the proper course for him.
if he was really desirous of a foot
ball game, was to influence his stud
ent body to rescind their resolution
and allow him to deal with us openly
in the matter.”
From talking to a number of agri
cultural college students during my
stay in Portland, I gained the im
pression that there was a strong
sentiment in the 0. A. C. student body
in favor of the renewal of athletic re
lations with the University of Ore
gon. I was greatly surprised at the
stand that Dolan took, after profess
ing to be anxious for a football game
with U. of O.”
