There will be a meeting of every one interested in golf next Wednesday, at 4 "P. M., in Prof. Reddie’s room in Villard Hall. The purpose will be to re-organize the club after its past year of inactivity. Eight years ago there were about a hundred enthus iastic members, who had a well-fur nished club house at the links on Col lege Hill, but for a few years interest has suffered a slump. This year, the promoters consider the chances for a successful revival very good. The links can be reached easily on the cars, and but a small outlay of forty dollars will put the greens in excellent condition. A large membership will lower the an nual fees to about fifty cents. Ar rangements have been made for lay ing in a large supply of balls and clubs. Golf is a good winter sport, and with cross-country, is about the only out-of-door recreation for the rainy months. A number of the faculty of officers are enthusasts already; among them are Pres. Campbell, Profs. De Cou, Dearborn, Shafer, Thurber. Miss tiffany, and Mr. Prescott. The present record is forty, but before the end of the year, with a good course and reg ular, consistent play, this record is expected to be lowered to thirty-five. Two tournaments will be held in late winter or early spring, one handi cap, and the other an open tourna ment. A Good Surprise to your mother, sister, or sweetheart, will be a box of OTTO’S CANDIES. The only candy made in Eugene, and better than any candy shipped in to Eugene. BASKETBALL SERIES FOR CLASSES STARTSDEC.12 Schedule Consisting of Four Games Will Be Played Off Early Next Week. Beginning next Tuesday, the in ter-class basketball series for the possession of the Hayward cup will commence. Only four games will be played, two on Tuesday and two on Wednesday, and the championship will be decided on the percentage basis. Little is known of the relative strength of the contesting teams, particularly in the case of the fresh men, and a close race for the cup is anticipated by the various teams. Up to this week it has been gen erally understood that the same rules would govern the inter-class series as those formulated for the club and fraternity games, that is that none of last year’s varsity men would be allowed to play, but the Sophomores have taken matters into their own hands by electing Carl Fenton as captain of their aggrega tion, and it is probable that the other classes will follow suit. As yet, however, Bill Nitscke (junior) is the only other captain chosen. WALKER ELECTED FOOT BALL CAPTAIN FOR 12 Independence Student to Lead Oregon Hopefuls in Championship Scramble. At a Banquet of the footbal team, Wednesday night, at the Osburn Ho tel, Dean Walker, ’13, was elected captain of the 1912 Varsity. Five ballots were taken, all of which re sulted in a tie between Walker and Ed Bailey, and the deadlock was broken by the flip of a coin, in which Walker outlucked the giant tackle. Fenton nominated Walker and Sap Latourette put Bailey’s name be fore the team. Walker is a popular player, this be ing his third year on the Oregon team. Walker prepped at Columbia University of Portland and played three years on that team, receiving several all-interscholastic selections by the Portland scribes. Walker is a hard, conscientious player, and a favorite with team and fans alike. He hails from Independence and is a junior in the college of liberal arts. Miss Margo Egan entertained Fri day afternoon with cards, in honor of two guests from Portland, the Misses Leirnson and Sutton. Miss Amy Rothchild entertained in the evening with a dance, also in honor of Miss Sutton and Miss Leirnson. Miss Sophie Catlin and Miss Neil Thielson were hostesses at a large dance in Salem, at the Hotel Marion, on Friday, December 1. A great many of their University friends were present. The Tri Deltas entertained for the Phi Gamma Deltas Friday evening. The evening was spent in dancing. The Tri Delta Seniors entertained a few of their friends at dinner Thursday evening. Guests at the Beta Theta Pi House over the week-end are C. E. McCul loch, Tyler Oglesby and Grover Kest ly, from Portland; Frank Sullivan, from Oregon City; Carl Gabrielson, and Tom Townsend, from Salem; Edwin Fortmiller, from Albany, and Arthur Means and Merle Chessman, from Pendleton. Stuart Freeman, a student of Port land Academy, spent a few days at the Kappa Sigma House.
