Cassius Hawley went to his home, at Divide over Sunday. Harold Watson visited at the Phi Gamma Delta House this week. The Beth Rhea’s entertained for Miss Perkins of Wisconsin last week. Miss Stinson, Madeline Harding and Nellie Ban field spent the last week end in Portland. Mildred Wilson, of Roseburg, and Minnie Jackson were guests at the Lambda Rho House. Mrs. J. A. Heusner and daughter, Louise, were week-end guests at the Kappa Sigma House. Marie Zimmerman has returned to Portland after a fortnight’s stay at the Gamma Phi House. A reception will be given Friday afternoon, Nov. 10, by the Gamma Phi Beta girls for their housemother, Mrs. Kohr. Birdie Wise and Lucille McQuinn will be hostesses Friday afternoon to their friends at Mrs. Brown’s home on Emerald Ave. Mrs. Avery and Mrs. W. S. Cutler visited over the week-end at the Gamma Delta Gamma House. Mrs. Cutler will remain indefinitely. Jean Allison and Mabel Kuyken dall left Monday evening to attend the,Tri Delta convention at Berkeley. While there they will attend the Stanford-Berkeley game at Palo Alto. A, IS HERE Dr. Conklin Speaks On Definition of Sciences.—Recognition Banquet Soon. Miss Fox, General Student Secre tary of the Y. W. C. A., arrived in Eugene [Tuesday afternoon for a week’s stay. While here she will be the guest of Mildred Bagley at the Kappa Alpha Theta House. She will hold meetings in the Wo men’s Gymnasium Wednesday even ing from eight until nine; Thursday from seven until eignt. and Sunday afternoon from three until four. On Saturday afternoon, there will be an informal reception fbr her at the Lambda Rho House. All Varsity girls are cordially in vited to attend the meetings and re ception. Dr. Conklin gave an extremely in teresting talk at the regular meeting last Monday, in which he showed that the differences existing between psy cology, and in fact all sciences, is largely a matter of the terms used in defining them. Norma Graves gave a piano solo. The annual Recognition Banquet for the new girls will be held next Mon day, November 13, in place of the regular meeting. The exact time and place will be announced later. KAPPA SIGMA FRATERNITY WILL GIVE FROSH SMOKER Kappa Sigma will give its second annual smoker to the Freshmen of the University Friday evening. No vember 10, at the chapter house at the corner of Alder and 11th streets. The Freshmen of the fraternity will be hosts, and every male member of the 1915 class, be he black or white, barb or Greek, boner or bonehead, is cor dially invited. There will be plenty of soft drinks on tap, as well as a supply of the filthy weed for those who care to indulge, and boxing bouts, vaudeville stunts, and a gen eral hilarious time are among the attractions promised. PUEXY JUMPER JOHNSON ENTERTAINS ENGINEERS President J. Lewis Johnson, of the Engineering Club, entertained a few of the junior and senior engineers at his home Tuesday evening. At six fifteen a course dinner was served. After dinner the evening was spent in recalling events of the first year of the men in college. Many amus ing and interesting stories were told of old time hazing and University traditions. All present voted “Jump er” a jolly host. Those present were C. L. Marshall, C. W. Walls, Raymond Heider, Chas. Reynolds, Clyde Pattee, Abe Black man, Elliott Roberts, Walter Hodge and Leigh Huggins. FORECAST OF NOVEMBER MONTHLY GIVEN OUT The second issue of the Oregon Monthly will be out about the six teenth. This number will be devoted to clubs and organizations such as the Oregon Club and the Henry George Club. The editor has decided to enter a comic department, to take the place of the “Who’s Who.” This is to be an experiment, and if it is success ful, will become a permanent depart ment of this year’s issues. There will be a number of excellent stories in the November number. EUTAXIAN SOCIETY HEARS INTERESTING PROGRAM The Eutaxians report that their program Tuesday evening was both interesting and enjoyable. Ruth Mer rick spoke on Taft’s recent visit to the erstwhile solid South and the United Steel Trust Investigation now in progress. Pauline Van Orsdale gave a clever reading and Ruth Beach and Lucia Macklin donated ex tempore talks. Parli'ametary drill was conducted by the president.
