W. BUDGET CONTAINS NEWS AND GIVES PLANS Professor Svveetser gave one of his interesting talks before the Y. W. C. A. last Monday, on Biology and Re ligion. He denies emphatically that scientific knowledge is detricental to religion and demonstrated that the deeper knowledge one can get into science, the more his religious views are strengthened. Next Monday Dr. Conklin will speak upon Psyeol ogy and Religion. This will be of special interest, as Dr. Conklin has a thorough knowledge of the subject. Plans are now being made for the Annual County Fair, which will be given during the winter. It will be carrie dout much the same as last year. Friday night of this week, the As sociation will give a “Baby Party” at the Women’s Gymnasium. All the girls in the University are cor dially invited. An admission fee of ten cents will be charged to defray the expenses of the refreshments. JANITOR HURT BY FALL FROM WINDOW A near tragedy occurred Wednes day evening .when James Dunham, janitor of the men’s dormitory, fell from a window of the second story in that building, alighting on a gravel path beneath. Although Mr. Dunham was severely bruised by the sudden contact with the frost-bitten ground, he sustained no permanent injuries and has already re-assumed his usual duties. Senator Gore Will Deliver Address Tonight on “Abe Lincoln and Jefferson Davis.” Tonight the students of the Uni versity will have the opportunity of hearing United States Senator Thomas P. Gore, of Oklahoma, who in late years has become a figure of national importance in politics. Senator Gore, familiary called the “Blind Man Eloquent,” although to tally blind since ten years of age, has by his personality and wonderful in tellect, along with a clean record, won his way to the top, and has been elected twice by the people of his state, who have the greatest confi dence in his ability to represent them in the LTnited States Senate. In the senate it is freely acknowl edged that Senator Gore is better in formed on economic and political questions than any other member, and many seek him for information and ■advice on different measures. Not only is he one of the best in formed members of the senate, but he is also one of the most interesting speakers in that body. His speeches are said to abound with wit and his language is simple and forceful. The subject of Senator Gore’s ad dress, in Villard Hall this evening, will probably be “Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis/’ The admission to the lecture will be fifty cents. rfcjfcjfcjfcsijijj if::};## * DOBIE TOLLS BELL * :*« i}c :}c sfc Although victorious over the Uni versity of Idaho last Saturday, Coach Gilmour Dobie of the University of Washington pretends that he is not at all satisfied with the showing that the team made. He states that the only reason that the University of Idaho did not win was their lack of confidence. Commenting on Oregon’s victory over Washington State Fri day, Dobie said: “Oregon certainly deserved to win. The Eugene men were playing far from home, and if they were not by all odds the better team would have lost. We are going to have the game of our life when we meet them in Portland.” In spite of Dobie’s harangue of his team, Spokane sporting writers say that the low score was for the bene fit of the Pullman and Eugene aggre gations, which witnessed the game. VARSITY BAND GROWS TO TWENTY MEMBERS From a beginning a few weeks ago of eight men, who gathered at the Sigma Chi House for the first prac tice, the Students’ Band has grown to an organization of twenty members. Burns Powell, the leader, has been drilling his men twice a week, and promises some good music for Friday night’s big rally and Saturday’s game. Busher Brown, in an interview to day. declared, “The action of the M. P. A. in refusing to allow subscrip tions among its members, will make the purchase of uniforms for the band impossible.
