MADAME SHERRY
PLEASES AUDIENCE
_
The long looked for “Madame Sher
ry" arrived in Eugene yesterday and
played in the evening at the Eugene
I heater to one of the largest audiences
ever collected in that building. Every
seat was sold Thursday, and many were
standing in the aisles at the perform
ance.
Madame Sherry was not a disappoint
ment. The ladies, nine in number, were
attractive, and able to sing, too. The
leading lady, especialy, had a clear,
sweet voice, which, combined with her j
pleasing personality, made her a de-1
lightful character. Oscar Figman, a; the
“Chicle," was as original and funny as
when he used to play the Ambassador
in the Merry Widow. “Madame cher
ry" and “Edward Sherry” were well
acted and sung, as were the “Spanish
Woman" and the “French Janitor.”
The music was god. the songs and
dances were catchy. “Even- Little
Movement formed the background of \
the whole opera, and was played and
sung in many effective places and ways I
throughout the three acts. The orches-'
tra, made up of six of their own men,'
augmented by the local orchestra, was
one of the best ever heard in Eugene.
