EVIDENCE AT WEEK END
Gamma Delta Gamma Gives For
mal Reception—Acacia, Ava
va and Tawahs Dance
Last week end was a pleasant round
of social activity, being the occasion of
several house dances among the differ
ent fraternities and societies.
The large affair of the week end was
the Gamma Delta Gamma open house
on Friday evening. The girls were
royal hostesses and made a good time
for all their guests. Evergreens were
the decoration scheme, and the cleverly
concealed orchestra was a feature. In
the receiving line were Miss Stinson,
Miss Cutler. Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Pen
nell and Mrs. Wilcox, of Portland
About twenty couples enjoyed dancing
after the reception, and had a splendid
time till a late hour.
The Acacias gave a house dance on
Friday evening to music furnished by
FLendershotft’s orchestra. Mrs. Dunn
and Mrs. Straub were patronesses.
On Saturday evening the Tawah Club
and the Avava men each had a dance.
Mrs. McAdams, Mrs. Dobie and Mrs.
Moxlev were patronesses for the Ava
vas, while Mr. and Mrs. McClain did
honors for the Tawahs. Hendershott
and his cohorts furnished music.
SPIRITED TRYOUT BRINGS
OUT GOOD MATERIAL
In the first regular tryout meet this
season, F.ill Hayward’s track aspirants
performed in creditable style, on Kin
caid Field, last Saturday afternoon. A
J number of new men showed up in good
form and bid fair to become valuable
acquisitions to Oregon’s track team.
Hal Bean won the 100 and 220-yard
dashes over Kay, Johns, Hawkins and
Briedwell; time 10 2-5 seconds. Brad
shaw, a Freshman who promises big
thing's in the middle distance races, won
the 440 in good style. Grout, another
“Frosh,” took first in the shot put over
Kellogg, with a heave of 36 feet 7
inches. Stellar and Service showed up
well in the high jump, defeating Sprin
water Johnson. McConnel, Miller and
Huggins ran good races in the half
mile. Rill Fizer won the pole vault
without being crowded to his limit
1 fawkins, running strong, captured the
j hurdle events, with Sap Latourette tear
] ing up the turf for second places. Ed
' I Filey playfully tossed the hammer out
'of the enclosure, for first honors. Me
Clure stepped off the mile in 4:50. Bill
Xei 1 hurled the javelin fifty-odd yards.

120 high hurdles—Hawkins; time

220 dash—Hal Bean; time 23.1.
Shot put—Grout; distance ,36 feet,
7 inches.
Hammer—Bailey; distance 142 feet.
Pole vault—Fiser, 10 feet.
440 dash—Bradshaw; time 54.1.
I High jump—Stellar; distance 5 feet
7 inches.
220 low hurdles—Hawkins; time 27.
j Discus—Kellogg; distance 103 feet,
4 inches.
| Broad jump—Hawkins; distance 19
feet, 1 inch.
Mile run—McClure; time 4.50.
Javelin—Bill Neil: distance 151 feet,
8 inches.
