DR. HINSON DELIVERS
ME ADDRESS TO ¥1
Nearly Seventy-five Present to
Hear Brilliant Portland
Speaker
The address given by Dr. Hinson at
the Y. M. C. A. meeting in Deady Hall
last evening just before the oratorical
contest was heard by nearly seventy
five men.
1 he subject of the talk was "The Pro
jected Life,” in which the speaker
brought out very' emphatically by many
unique illustrations and phrases the val
ue of the life lived for the good of so
ciety. For twenty-five minutes he held
the room full of men, many of whom
were obliged to stand, at the closest
attention by his tersely expressed truths
and touches of humor. His address was
especially appreciated because, although
he began ten minutes late, he was
thoughtful enough to quit right on the
minute and the guarantee of the Y. M.
C. A. that theses weekly meetings shall
close at ten minutes to eight was strict
ly kept.
The report of the nominating com
in'ttee which was appointed a week ago
was made. Earl Jones was nominated
for President, Elliott Roberts for Vice
President, Edward Himes for Treasur
er, and Vernpn Motschenbacher for Sec
retary.

electing L. L. Hope, of Pacific, Presi

The amendments to the constitution
of the association. were as follows :
i“Each judge shall mark, the oration
he considers, best 100, and the others
according to their relative merits, pro

‘‘At the close of the contest the exec
utive committee shall canvass the grades
and marie them 1, ?, 3, 4, etc. The ora
tor ranked fic$t by four or more of the
judges shall be awarded first place. If
no orator is thus ranked first, the>ora
tor the sum of whose ranks is least

of a' tie, an average of the two rankings
shall be made on the basis of percent
age.”
The amendments were introduced by
the Oregon cjfiiegs tion, and recoived but
faint oppositio- , , ; .
