FRATERNITIES ignore OREGONIAN ARTICLE A meeting of the heads of the various fraternity houses was held in Professor Dunn’s room yesterday at 4:00 o’clock to discuss the advisability of replying to a scurrilous article which appearecl in Wednesday’s Oregonian. Professor Dunn was requested by a local paper to write an article answering the charges. Before doing so, he con sulted with some of the most promi nent fraternity men of the University, and their unanimous opinion was that the article was not worth attention. The author of the sensational half column which caused the meeting did not sign his name, using only the ini tials “L. R. W.” In speaking of the “whims, fancies, fads and sports fostered and lured at our universities,” he said: “Take, for instance, the so called fraternities, those secret organizations which are granted permission from nobody but university authorities, the privilege of plastering their hooting houses for secret purpos es upon public property. Yes. and it is great to note the various select classes who are permitted free shelter in these houses built on grounds which belong to the general public.” NEWS LETTER FROM WASH. The annual football game between the Freshmen and Sophomores comes off Saturday, the 3rd. the game being post poned until after the end of the season in order to allow the Varsity men, that is those who made their letters this year, a chance to play. At a recent meeting of the Students’ Assembly, a rule to abolish smoking on the campus was passed. mis FOR NEXI YEAR NEVER BRIGHTER Tho Not Winning Championship, Oregon Has Developed Ex cellent Material According to the far-seeing prophets, the football prospects for the University of Oregon next year are exceptionally bright. Every man on Coach Warner's great team is eligible to play again next season. Although Ben Grout and Captain Tay lor will be lost by graduation, both, will be eligible should the y decide to return to college. Taylor has repre sented the University three years, and Grout two years. With the excellent material developed this season on the big reserve squad, together with the contribution from the next Freshman class, a wealth of mole-skin artists is assured. Because of unforeseen difficulties, the schedule this year included but two con ference college games. Next year ev ery effort will be made to sign contracts with Idaho, Washington, Willamette, Pullman or Whitman, and O. A. C., in the event that the present difficulties are satisfactorily adjusted; then Multnomah will be played again on Thanksgiving 'day. Although the past season included but three important games, with Idaho, O. A. C. and M. A. A. C., it is considered successful because of the material devel oped for next year. Coach Warner’s achievements with the scanty array of veteran players is considered remarka ble. Trainer Hayward highly commends the members. of the squad for their faithful training and hard work. To the men on the reserve squad, es pecially, he attributes a great measure of the success attained by the regular team. Such men as Fiser, Hall, Brad shaw, Cobb, and a number of others, are expected to make strong bids for Varsity positions next season. The men who are entitled fco football monograms this season are Kellogg, Weidlen, Grout. Bailey, Fenton, Jami son, Michael, Latourette, Taylor Walker and Main.
