TUI DELIA ORGANIZES
THETA DELTA ALLIANCE
Organization Is Composed of
Alumnae and Non-Active
Members of Tri Delta
Following the installat:on of the
Kloshe Tillacum as Theta Delta chap
ter of Delta Delta Delta fraternity, oc
curred the organization of what will be
known as the Theta Delta Alliance.
This albance is made up of the alumnae
members of the local chapter and resi
dent Tri Deltas who have been members
of other chapters. Miss Fitch, who in
stalled the local chapter, acted as or
ganizing officer for the alliance, which
is the first organization of its kind
among the fraternities here.
The alliance is formed for the pur
pose of assisting and advising the ac
tive chapter and keeping in close touch
with no-active members. Arrangements
are made for regular meetings of the
resident members, and special effort is
made to have at least one meeting dur
ing the year at which all members can
be present. The alliance not only keeps
in touch with the active chapter, but is
also closely connected with the national
organization, so that Tri Deltas who
are not active members of some chap
ter can, through their alliance member
ship, still have many privileges of fra
ternity life.
The members of the Eugene Theta
Delta Alliance are: Mrs. Felix Moore,
Eugene; Mrs. Hohnquist, Eugene; Ma
bel Kuykendall, Eugene; Mozelle Hair,
Grants Pass; Angeline Williams, Ore
gon City; Agnes Stevenson, Eugene;
Harriet Lane, Portland; Annie Berg
man, Astoria; Olivia Rislev, Roseburg;
Grace LaBrie, Portland.
SECRETARY BROWN
SCORES HIT WITH Y. M.
E. M. Brown, general secretary of
the University Y. Af. C. A., spoke last
evening at the Y. AT. C. A. meeting
on the subject, “The Alan Worth
While.” He asserted that the man
worth while is thoroughly reliable, does
not shirk responsibility, has fixed con
victions for which be dares to stand,
and 'above all is optimistic.
Because of an unavoidable engage
ment. one of the members of the quar
tette was absent last night, but the
leader promised a full quartette for
Friday.
One of the most interesting meeting'
of the year will be held one week from
last night. The Y. W. C. A. and the
Y. At. C. A. will unite for this meeting,
and will be addressed by Professor
Sweetser. Professor Sweetser is a
speaker of the gattling gun order, and
has a most entertaining address on so
cial conditions in the slums and among
the poor classes in the big cities. He
has spoken evcrv year for several years j
before the Y. AT. C. A. on this same
theme, and his meetings have invarian’y
.set ih high mark in attei dance for
the year.
It :s hoped that the ladies’ rymnasuim

The cross country prospects for the
University of Oregon were never bright
er. A large number of men are turn
ing out for the early season prelimina
ry work. The long runs will not be
gin until cooler weather this fall. 1 min
er Hayward announces that a cup will
be awarded in the inter-class cross'
country race, and that a gold medal
will be given the first man to complete
the circuit.
Oregon has excellent chances for de
feating O. A. C. on November 12, the
morning before the Oregon-O. A. C.
football game. With such stars as Mc
Clure, Maguire and Huggins, no diffi
culty should be encountered in outdis
tancing the farmers. The men who are
signed up for cross country work at
the present time are: McClure, Hug
gins, Shaver. Emery, Houston. Maguire,
Reynolds, Martzloff, Walls, Bennett am
Staehr.
WILL BROADENS COPE
OF STUDENT LOAN FOND
University Will Make Special Ap
peal to Students in Straight
ened Circumstances
The University administration plans
to increase the educational opportuni
ties for young men in hampered finan
cial circumstances by increasing the
scope and efficiency of the University
loan fund feature.
There is a special fund, now amount
ing ;to several thousand dollars, -by
which the University is enabled to aid
deserving students in straightened cir
cumstances. One hundred dollars a
year is the maximum loan to each stu
dent. A very low interest rate is
charged and considerable time for re
payment is allowed.
As the cost of living at the University
rises, President Campbell plans to in
crease this fund and to organize some
form of living club for students who
can not spend over $250.00 per annum.
This will bring the University within
reach of all and dissipate the idea often
prevailing that Oregon is a “silk
stocking” college.
