Ordinarily this effusion of spirit would hardly be recognized as pertaining to the summer school, but the last session of the University of Oregon Summer School ushered in a new era of school work. Xo more the haunt of dunkers and antiquated maiden lady school mis tresses, but the habitat of real earnest students. The social side, which has hitherto been neglected, was this year in the hands of a student committee, which made a decided success of die ven ture. Receptions, picnics, dances, a ten nis tournament, and even a successful rally were features of the program. The brazen throated masculine element pa raded down the principal thoroughfare proclaiming the aforementioned Scan danavian whoop in resonant basso, and the fraternity and sorority houses were favored with a few choice selections from the Summer School impromptu glee club. The attendance this year shows a forty per cent increase over any previous year, more than two hundred and fifty students and teachers were affiliated with summer school work in Eugene. The registration was mainly from within the state and was a more repre sentative bunch than in former years. About two-thirds of the enrollment con sisted of teachers; the rest were can didates for the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, who expect to finish in the Uni versity proper. The lectures of Professors Rigler, Cooper and Gray were the star attrac tions. The plans for next year include the in troduction of several prominent Eastern men into the Summer School faculty and some additional departments from the University proper. Miss Ruth Hansen, 1910, will be a member of the facult yof the Salem High School this year. Miss Jessie Hurley, '09, a prominent alumna, is visiting the Gamma Phi Beta sorority a few days. Miss Hurley grad uated from Baltimore Women’s College last June. The Oak Shoe Store Walk Over Shoes 587 Willamette St. Attention!
