I he stage in Villard F lail I has been raised so that the chorus will . sit on elevated tiers, and an extension °f twelve feet lias been added to the j front of the stage for the orchestra, j Professor Glen will stand on an ele vated stand in front of the orchestra. Practically all of the chorus and part of the orchestra were present at the rehearsal last night, and they made an imposing spectacle, which covered the entire stage. Both organizations are in line form, and they sang and played with a “swing” and “zip” that places them ahead of *ill choruses and orches tras ever organized in Eugene. Before the rehearsal Burns Powell, president of the (. horal Societv, made a speech, in which he emphasized the necessity of having a large crowd at each concert in order to make expenses, and urged active boosting on the part of the members of both organizations, lie asked that they insist especially on the support of the student body. I his enterprise, he said, should not he allowed to die. lie assured them that the hestival will he of such mu sical merit that they need not he at all backward in lauding its many fea tures to their friends. I he next rehearsal will be held Fri day morning at 9:30 o'clock, in Vil lard 11 all. and every member of the cho rus is urged to he present. The men from Portland will he there and the entire orchestra of 27 pieces will ac company the chorus for the first time. Professor Glen was heard to remark yesterday: "We will soon know whether or not the students and people of Eugene really want a choral society and.an an nual festival. I am more than pleased with both the orchestra and the cho rus, and the soloists are the best I could get in the state. This festival will be -equal, and in many respects superior, to any festival ever given in Eugene, and if it is not supported I shall despair of ever making the fes tivals a permanent activity. 1 hope that the student body will take the matter seriously and uphold the music lovers in their efforts to further the interests of good music in the University.” CO-EDS WILL EDIT EMERALD NEXT WEEK Pauline Davis and Caroline Dun otan to Have Charge of Annual Edition I he editorial staff elected is: editor.
