I his year's Annual, which will he the best ever turned out by Ore gon or any other university in this part of the country, will be sent to every high school and preparatory school in the state1. Among the latest features. Editor Rob inson announces the 'll class book will contain pictures of all the members of the Board of Regents, and also will he the first number with individual pic tures of the professors who head the va rious departments of the University. At present they are twenty in number. In the past it has been the custom to dedicate the, Junior Annual to some pro fessor or individual connected with the l niversity. I his year’s concensus of opinion seems to favor dedicating the hook to the whole University. S. II Friendly, chairman of the Board of Re gents, is pulling for the Annual, heart ind soul. WHITMAN THINKS NEW RULES BAD FOR 6AME Whitman College, Feb. 16.—The Rev erend Air. Blackburn, of the Baptist church of Baker City, who was privi leged to hear Mr. Lincoln debate with Douglas on several occasions, gave a lec ture in the chapel on Friday for the an nual Lincoln exercises. Mr. Blackburn's praise of Lincoln was of the highest, and he expressed the desire that someone would write a more complete biogra phy of America's greatest statesman. Much interest was taken in the recent xisketball game with the heavy Wash ington State College men. The Pull man players won by a score of 3<S to34 before a large crowd. The game was rough, and although it was enjoyed and tpplauded hy the spectators, many went iway thinking that the intercollegiate rules have not helped the basketball \orld. I hey say that the game loses in cleverness and develops too much in dividual playing. I Henry Rehem, a Freshman who was one of the three who defeated Pullman in debate recently, won the declamation contest on I hursjday from four con testants. ITis selection was taken from Shakespeare, and Mr. Rehem gave a splendid interpretation. By winning the contest, he has the honor of having his name engraved on the declamation cup Baseball practice has started in the Whitman gymnasium. As vet only throwing is being done, but hater a bat 'my ege will be erected and a month's inside work will put the men in good a ndi’.ion before the field is dry. CHORUS REHEARSES—IS INCREASING IN SIZE I he Cnivcrsity Choral Society is re hearsing every Tuesday evening in Vil lard llall. So far only the "Stabet Abater" has been studied, but next Tues day “Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast" will also be taken up. Members are request ed to bring both chorals to this re hearsal. file size of the chorus is increasing rapidly and now numbers somewhere in the neighborhood of ninty members. It is thought that the membership limit of 100 will have to be extended to ac commodate the number of desirable singers who apply for membership.
