Nov. 15.—The, first step toward selecting Idaho’s inter state debating teams this year was taken yesterday when the contestants met and chose sides. About a dozen have en tered the contest. This is the only de bate in which Idaho will take part this year. The tryout will be held in about a month. A new in-door rb'e range has recently been constructed over the gallery in the gymnasium and more interest is being taken in target practice A fencing club has been formed the members of which hope to meet some of the neighboring collges in a contest of this kind before the close of the second semester. Great interest is being shown in the city Y. M. C. A. building which is to be built in the near future. At present Dean Eldridge and Professor Morley are canvassing University Hill for sub scriptions for this worthy cause and are reporting unexpected success. The football game between the Lewis ton Normal and the second team of Ida ho has been postponed one week. Whitman College, Nov. 16.—The thing of greatest interest to happen last week at Whitman was the football game be tween Whitman and Whitworth, which resulted in a tied score. The teams were about evenly matchel in weight, and put up about the same style of hall, open playing being the rule. The forward pass, and trick plays were used fre quently. A small crowd attended the game, and the management barely made expenses. The Whitworth team will* remain at Walla Walla until Monday, when it will go north to meet Washing ton State at Pullman on Tuesday. The Whitman grounds and gymnasium were used by the Presbyterians for practice, which they carried out Saturday in the snow that fell Friday night. Both teams came out of the game in good condition. The game, though hard-fought, was clean, and there were no injuries on either side. Whitman has one more game for the season, the annual Thanksgiving contest with W. S. C.. This will be played at Walla Walla, and the management ex pects a record crowd. The controversy over the amendment to the constitution of the A. S. of W. C. which was assuming proportions that threatened to disrupt the student body is about to be compromised, and it is expected that the amended amendment will be adopted at the meeting called for tomorrow. The amendment was in re gard to the amount of money to be paid the manager of the college paper, who has heretofore received 90 per cent of all profits, and thereby cleared $270 last year for his service. A new faculty ruling in regard to the lemoval of conditions makes it impera tive that students having conditions re move them during the semester follow ing. their incurrence, and allows but one make-up examination in any subject. Heretofore a year was allowed with any number of trials at the discretion of the instructor. . A benefit show, to be an imitation of the famous “Pay Streak” of the A. Y. P. E., will be given during the second week of December in the college gym nasium. This is for the benefit of the A. S. of W. C., and the proceeds will be used to pay off the outstanding debt. On the anniversary of Schiller’s hirth last Wednesday der Verein Germania held one of their most successful meet ings at the home of the Avavia Club. After a short business meeting the fol lowing program was rendered: Song—Double Quartette Recitation _Birdie Wise Recitation _Elizabeth Bush First scene from Wilhelm Tell— Fisherknabe_C. W.
