Housekeepers' Pay Boost Eyed SALEM (UPD Recommend ed increased wases in p u b 1 i c housekeeping occupations will be aired at a meeting of the Oregon Wage and Hour Com mission in Portland today. Recently recommended was a wage floor ot si an nour lor women and 85 cents for minors employed in hotels, motels, re taurants, taverns, clubs and similar workplaces. It was vot ed to retain the present regu lation on a maximum eight hour day, six day, 44-hour week. The present provision for a half day's pay when an cm ploye is required to report for work that docs not materialize also received commission endorsement. Labor Commissioner Norman O. Nilsen said the hearing would give interested personnel a final opportunity to express their views before the commission lakes final action. Nilsen is executive secretary of the commission and adminis ters orders regulating women's and minor's employment in var ious industries. Registrations Needed To Fill Sewing Class An adult class in sewing will be held in the homemaking room at Myrtle Creek High School beginning Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. providing enough interest is shown. Classes were scheduled to start Jan. 14 but not enough people were present to make up a class. The classes will run for three hours each Tues day for 10 weeks. Mrs. Jasper Miller will be instructor. Myrtle Creek area residents interested in learning sewing or improving abilities may regis ter at the high school or at the evening class. The registration fee Is $10. The class is spon sored jointly by the Oregon State Department of Education Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Nay visit ed recently with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hong, in Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Olliviint and children, Kathleen, Michael and Alan have returned from a 10-day trip through the north ern part of the state and in Washington and Idaho.
