seagulls for runway space at
its Moffett Field base near San
Francisco.
The gulls descended on the
air strip Oct. 19 and engaged
in competition with pilots and
planes for lanaing room. Huge
helicopters swept over the run
way at regular intervals later
and the birds deported in search
