Baker's Famous Quorum Club
Holds Open House For Press

Hoi Hill's suddenly famous Quo
rum Club, located in a suite
that was once a Nixon-for-j
president office, held open
house for newsmen today. The
purpose was to show there's
nothing sinister or ultra - secret
about its operations.
The club fell into the news
spotlight because former Senate
Democratic Secretary Robert
G. (Bobby) Baker, now under
investigation for his non-Senate
lusincss dealings, was an orig
inal member.

run-in with the federal govern
ment came to light when he
filed notice with the U.S. tax
court that he would fight the
IRS determination.
The government said that
union-paid insurance, legal fees,
hotel expenses and transporta
tion for Hoffa fell in the cate
gory of personal income and
that he should have paid taxes
on it.
In their answer, the Hoffas
claimed these payments were
not subject to taxation on
grounds they were either tax
exempt or ordinary and neces
sary expenses connected with
his business as a union officer.
The IRS said tho Hoffas's
taxable income for 1959 was re
ported as S71.407.25 and a tax
of $33,706.73 was paid by the
union chief and his wife.
